First Accident (Beware of May is right!)

So last night I was parked in a parking lot because I didn't want to leave my baby in the street. When I come back, I see a scratch that starts from my back tire all the way through my rear driver side door that is about 14 inches high/wide.

Some asshole pulled into the spot next to me and scratched my baby!!! He being the idiot that he is, just parks his car and leaves it there.

I wait around for him to show his face, no go. As I was pulling out my golf clubs to repay him the favor my girlfriend shows up and said the security guard knows who's car it was. 5 minutes later the owner shows up and set off his panic alarm because he thinks I am going to jack his car.

He yells "what are you doing to my car" and I tell him that I was looking to check the damage he did to my car. I show him the scratch and he says to me that it was there when he pulled up and that he saw it like that. I then ask him "so why is my paint on your front bumper?" and he jumps and shits his pants and says "THERE'S A SCRATCH ON MY BUMPER? Shit, I guess I did hit you"

I hope he does pay me out of pocket like he says he will.

Sorry, I just need to vent cause I am still upset about this, especially because I purposely parked it in a lot so that it would be off the street. The irony of it is that this guy is a student at the college I went to for my BS and where I am taking classes for my MS. He was also in one of my classes I taught back in the day.

Pics to follow tonight

This is getting to be a way too common occurance on this site. I'm sorry to hear it.

How TF could you not know you hit somebody? What kind of car was he driving?

I'd like to see the pics.

Worse thing you could have done was return the favour.

He was driving a 1998 Camaro, which he only picked up last week. His insurance card was a temp that started on 5/7/04.

I would never really return the favor, although I wish I could. Just me being evil...

I also saw him hit the car to his left and the car behind him when he was leaving the lot. He definitely has issues with his new car and driving manual.

I am ready to pull the trigger with the insurance. I got all the information down from him last night, but he begged me not to go through insurance cause he wasn't on it....its registered under his mom.

Give him a day or two at the most.

I was rear ended a few years back and the lady asked me not to contact insurance either. I got a few quotes and realized the car had to be in the shop for about 3 to 5 days. How the hell was I supposed to get to work? I called insurance immdediatley so I could get a rental. Why should you be inconvienenced in any way?

Don't wait for him to pay up. Call his insurance company and file a claim. My philosophy is never trust these idiots!!! My TSX got rearended last October, the woman asked my wife not to call the insurance. I told my wife to report it to the insurance right away.

Here's a tip for the unexperienced drivers here:
If someone wants to make a deal with you, don't. You'll get screwed. Call the police.

The guy that hit you said he didn't have insurance. There's a reason, and my experience suggests that he is a suspended driver.

Did you get his plate and operator's license number? If so, call the police and make a report. Otherwise you're going to be up shit creek without a paddle.

If weeks have passed after you made the deal, and he's a no show, it become a civil matter that doesn't involve the police.

Good luck and inform us of the outcome.

I called my insurance agent this morning and let them know that I had a little fender bender last night and that the guy hit me while I was parked and wanted to settle without insurance claims. (My agent is great and just makes notes in case I decides to file, that is what she did for my dad a couple years ago) So I decided to get some quotes of the damages because I think the guy, who is only 19, thinks that it will only cost a $100 - $150. Went to 3 places that are pretty reputable by my job and got $700, $750, and $1200.

I filed a claim right away when I got these quotes. Called him after, not letting him know that I already filed a claim with his insurance and told him the price. His response "WHAT? I thought it was going to be $50 or $200 max! i can't..." I stop him mid sentence and say I know that is why you should be getting a call from your insurance company. He then says...."my mom is going to kill me."

That is a very sad site to see.

It hurts to see another ABP TSX like that or another TSX for that matter. It reminds me the time when someone keyed my TSX last summer.

Wow...he did a real number on your car, Yuhoo22. It amazes me that he would say he didn't hit your car if he did that much damage to it. Talk about incompetent and inconsiderate. I hope he gets what he deserves.

You should have called the police and reported it as a hit and run.

I saw a student on campus hit a car with a borrowed university vehicle. She parked right next to it and walked off like nothing happened. I was on duty and called an officer to file a report. She acted all surprised when I called her back to wait for the officer. Stupid, inconsiderate people. They should go to jail.

I got hit once by a woman that was desperate for me not to go to her insurance. She was also afraid of her husband's reaction. I tried to help her out and didn't file a claim. Of course, then she denied fault. Actually it was her husband who was the A-hole who denied fault and he would not let me talk to her about it. So I sued them in small claims court and won. The damage was $600, and with a court order to pay, they coughed up.

The guy was really really pissed, at me and especially his wife. I have this nagging feeling that the woman likely got a beating from him because of it. Yeah, I got my $600 bucks but I can't help but wonder if she paid a much higher price and I should have just let it go.

I'm 17 and been driving since I was 15 (permit). I haven't hit anyone or really been that close. I couldn't imagine hitting anyone and if I did, I would definately report it. Maybe it's just me being honest. I drove 15 thousand miles my first year. I live in Los Angeles.
