Fans come on with A/C on but not for engine cooling, heater blowing cold

My 2004 TSX with 188,000 miles on it and it is getting hot after a long idle and the fans are not coming on. The fans both come on when I turned the A/C on. The temperature guage is normally about 1/4 of the way up but it is going up to a little past the halfway mark after idling. The other stange issue is when the vehicle is getting that hot the heater won't blow hot air until it cools back down to normal. The fuses are all okay, I checked them. I bought the car 2 years ago with 144,000 on it but I don't know what the previous owner had done. Would it be worth it at this mileage to go ahead a replace the thermostat, water pump, and hoses and hope it's one of those? Any ideas on what it might be? Thanks

There is a radiator fan switch which enables cooling fans when temp reaches 196F-203F. It is likely not closing and needs replacement.

Replacement requires draining coolant and removing the splash shield to access switch in lower radiator.

good luck

Check your coolant level. Low coolant will starve the heater core, and may be too low to reach some sensors. Check it in the radiator, not just the overflow tank.

Awesome. Thank you. I am ordering parts this week and fixing it next week along with many other things. I will let you know if that does it. My fluid has never dropped or been low so I am hoping its a switch or sensor.

The cooling fan in my car switches on at 212F and stays on until about 190F. I monitor coolant temperatures with an Ultragauge since I'm running a grill block.
