Extended Warranty - is it worth it?
A shout out to all gen1 TSX.
I need your feedback on who purchased the extended warranty with your 2004 TSX, and whether it was well worth its high cost after the original warranty expired?
A family member is looking to buy a 2004 TSX and the dealer will sell the 7yr/100k extended warranty for approx $2,000 Cdn.
I have had my TSX 4yrs, and so far even after the 3yr warr expired, did not have to pay for any repairs that could have been under warranty.
Your quick feed back would be really appreciated!
Would you buy the additional Acura warranty?

that act may be true but many car dealership service centers say modified cars void warranties and don't acknowledge whatever time remaining you may have left on it.
that's what i thought was the industry standard, and the reason why some people are hesitant of making mods, because of their warranties.

I just extended my warranty to 100k last week. It's too early to tell whether or not it will pay for itself, but the peace of mind is definately worth it, imo.
I extended my warranty through Tim at HondaAcuraWorld.com. He assured me that this is the factory Acura warranty and not some aftermarket service. It also includes Acura's 24hr TLC service. I extended at 49,999 miles for another 50k, paid just over $1,100. Might be worth calling up Tim and extending through him if you are able to from Canada.

I recently picked up a certified 06 and they offered me the 7yr/100k warranty (from date of purchase) for just over $1000. I gladly paid that much for 7 years of warranty coverage...that's less cost than one major repair. Without it I would have had only 27,000 miles of warranty left (original warranty plus the 1year/12k that comes with certified program). I'm sure it will come in handy down the road.

I think getelevated got the bumper-to-bumper factory warranty wrap ... pretty good if he got a 2006 with 33,000 miles on the ODO. Be aware, the conventional extensions are from "date of service," which is not when you got it CPO, but when the car originally went into service.[1] Still -- I have one too -- it's nice knowing that all the electrical things and doodads are covered while I'm paying off on the car.
[1] Yours may differ if it's not AcuraCare but the dealer's extension.

It is the bumper-to-bumper, just like a brand new one. According to the dealer, it's all based on year/model of the car and current mileage. So with 30K on the dial for an 06 it was cheap. If it had 50 it would have been almost double I think. Just one more big plus to pick up the car (although I would have bought it without the ext warranty anyway )

For those thinking they bought a "bumper-to-bumper warranty", I would read the fine print, especially the "exclusions" section of your policy. It's highly unlikely the coverage will be the same as a new vehicle bumper to bumper policy. It may provide decent comprehensive coverage, and be worth the money, it's just not the same thing. The people selling warranties will say whatever you want to hear. Really, read the fine print. I purchased an Acuracare extended policy (Curry Acura) that added 4 yrs and 48K miles to the original warranty. This was done about a year ago on my '04 that had just under 40K miles for around $1000. I did it to provide peace of mind as well as coverage for the car. This was when all the A/C problems were surfacing. I've haven't had to use the warranty but sleep better knowing I'm covered. As a bonus, the warranty is transferable if the car is sold privately, not traded in, thus allowing me to get a better price should I decide to sell. Acura's have great reliability (on average), contrary to what some people around here say, so I may not need the coverage. I'm glad I have it though.

im thinking about it now since i work at a dealer and there is an 04 in the shop right now getting the engine rebuilt because it was burning oil. the past two time i got my oil changed, the oil level was extremely low. so now i have a few of the techs checking the level every week to see if i could have the same prob. just a heads up for anyone that thinks they may be burning oil

How would you know if you are burning oil?
I really bad, as I never bother to check the oil level. I just assume the warning lights would appear on the dash and that if there was a problem the service dept would have let me known.

My family member decided to get the warranty simply for peace of mind, as we figured a couple repairs on the a/c, electrical, or even the engine could end up costing at least over a thousand.
He has totally been enjoying his 04 TSX over the last few weeks.

Make a hole, coming thru!
For you guys who don't check your oil ... LEARN HOW. P. 234 of the 2007 OM. Takes a minute. Do it. No excuses.
The system warning message will appear only if the level is "very low" (p. 82), and by that time you may already be hurting the engine.

Totally agree with you about the oil levels. It's amusing to nthink the current 3 series from BMW has no dipstick, only an idiot light. Go figure, BMW is an engine company first. Hmmm.

As one video reviewer put it, "BMW apparently doesn't trust the dipstick who owns the vehicle to check the oil himself." Leaving Bimmer gals out in the cold....
