Engine Oil 50%?

Hello, I just recently purchased a CPO '06 tsx w/o navi and had a question:
my info panel tells me my engine oil is at 50%, but when i check it myself after a short trip, the oil line is well between the min and max. Is the level being read correct? help?

I believe that's the oil life not capacity.

Has nothing to do with oil level-that should remain normal no matter what the oil life is. When the oil life gets to 15%-it will show service due soon and a code that will let you know what service is due (codes can be found in your owners manual. At 5% it will show service due now. After it reaches 0% oil life (do not panic-it should still have oil) it will start showing miles past due. I usually wait until the oil life gets to 5%.

50% is saying you are about half life of the oil meaning you will need to get it changed in approx 1500 miles or so. As said, it has nothing to do with the capacity/amount of oil being held. Once you hit 15% I would change it out personally myself. The dealer is not my favorite for oil changes in my area. You DIY and you're assured it's done properly and not over torqued etc. But yea, the percentage is the oil life left.

...and of course being a Certified car the owners manual should have come with the car. All you need to know is covered in there.

oil life indicators does not give precise oil life reading. I do not recommend following that all the way to 5%....

Hope you enjoy your 06 tsx as much as I do mine. My 06 tsx has almost 89,000 miles. I am not into doing oil changes, etc. on my car and have it done by a acura dealer that I think is excellent.

I would follow the maintenance minder system. if it was at 50% oil life, they should have done a maintenance on it.

I run 5K miles between changes using Royal Purple. At 5K miles my meter is usually at 15%. There are lots of threads about going with the % meter or mileage. I'm one of those that prefer to watch the miles and not the meter.

more than likely your dealer/maintenance folks forgot to reset the oil life thing.
it's a really simple thing that you can do yourself - it's in the manual.

if it's CPO, they likely changed the oil - hopefully you have a record of what work was done prior to selling you the car.
