Engine Idle Speed

I searched through 10 pages of threads and couldnt really find an answer to my wifes question... She noticed when she pushes the clutch in while driving or stopped... The idle speed will not dip below 1000rpm when driving or 700rpm when completely stopped... From what I can gather, it is some sort of anti-stall program with the drive-by-wire, but I'm still wondering if that is suppose to happen... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Well, the idle speed should be around 750 rpm during idle for the MT. Not sure about your question about not going lower than 1000 during driving.

I figure 700-750rpm is good for stopped idle speed but i still dont understand why it wont drop below 1000rpm when the car is moving thanks for the replys...

There is a flywheel that attaches to the engine to keep the engine rpm up due to momentum. I also believe the system is designed to keep the rpm up in between shifts to further reduce emission by burning off excess fuel.

Btw, I still don't quite understand the question...

i think 1K rpm when clutch-in while in movement is normal, and i think 750 rpm is normal for idle, regardless of whether the clutch is engaged or not...

hmmm...I always wondered why the rmp shoots up momentarily in between shifts when up-shifting.

yeah I have heard that normal idle RPM's are 700-750...my old RSX Type S was also the same....anything higher is just the engine trying to get itself to a warmer temp.

It is normal. It is a control emissions issue. In order to produce less emissions, you have to control the rate of deceleration of the engine. This is what the engine control electronic does. Do the test yourself, run at steady speed, release the gas, then press the clutch, you will see that the rpm drop to 1000 then to 750.

I have an AT but when slowing down from a stop I notice the rpm will shoot up to like 1000 and back down and forth.
