Engine Block Numbers

Just curious to know a few things and need your help.

If you look at the engine block, just below where your intake tube meets the throttle body (look down in that area), you'll see a "K24A2" stamp, and a 7 or 8 digit number just below it.

What I'd like to know is what the lower number is on YOUR block, and what year your car is, and if you own a Canadian or American TSX.

(Verifying a theory in the block numbering scheme that Acura may/may not use).

Please post up your results!

Thanks everyone,
Eric

I guess I'll post mine too since I'm the one asking:

0300013 *block is supposedly a 2006 block*
2004 Canadian TSX (had block replaced)

Trying to figure out if there's any rhyme or reason to how they number the blocks to see if there is indication that they label some as "replacement" and some as "stock" or whatnot.

Also, does anyone know if the VIN# of the vehicle is actually ON the block somewhere? I recall seeing a VIN plate on a CRV block (k-series) right above the oil drain plug, but does this occur on the K24A2 block as well? I'd love to know what is on my replacement block but I can't get under there to look.

I think the Helm's defines the block number scheme. I too will check when I go workout in a few minutes and post later my info.

EDIT

Just checked AllData and they (Acura and as in the Helms) list that number just as a serial number. Nothing more said about it.

Hey curls, I sincerely tried to help you out. Unfortunately my ignorance is showing! I went down to the garage & looked around for tubes that connect to things, but no luck finding numbers that match your description. Can you tell me which quadrant of the hood space I should look in? I'd be happy to try again.

Okay curls, I looked and mine says ASU5-1002629. It is a white paper like sticker. That is the only thing I found anywhere near the area you said to look.

That's the tranny label.

The Engine one is always stamped "K24A2", and is located about 3-5" left of the tranny label/plate.

It looks like a square section of block, not like a plate, and is definately not a sticker. IIRC, the writing is vertical (bottom to top).

wndrlst: if you look at where the intake tube meets the TB, look below it, kinda between the hoses, etc.. that are in the way. If you can see the tranny label as moda_way did, its just left of there. The tranny label is easier to see so its a good point of reference.

Thanks everyone!!

Serial numbers are often decodeable. AS in the first few digits are some kind of indicator, and the next 5 or 6 are the actual sequence number.

As with VIN's: 6th-last digit is 8 in Canadian market indicator, x in the USA, but the 5 digits after that are sequence (serial) number.

Yeah, my problem is I don't know what an intake tube (lots of tubes under there!) or throttle body looks like. (but I can id a spleen histologically... Yeah, I know, worthless.)

I'll go try again in the morning & look for the label to see if that helps. Left? Right? Top? Bottom?

If you look at that pic, the approx. location of the engine block stamp is right at the very bottom of the pic, almost dead center (just left of dead center, from this perspective it'd be just left of the corner of the battery). The air intake tube is the waffle-textured one that goes next to the battery and is big enough to fit a baseball inside. Where that tube meeds metal that kinda comes off the engine, is the throttle body. Right below the throttle body about 5" is the stamp.

Beginning to think that myself... so far, no rhyme or reason (heck, one started with a letter!).

Thanks guys!

Since I work in the aircraft manufacturing industry, I know we serialize parts with no particular method other than that it is the next serial number available to the part. I'm guessing since it is on the tranny, this is the case as well. The white tag I mentioned would be used to provide a systematic way to track the serialized part (in this case, the tranny).
