Easy way to remove trim clips?

Anyone have any secrets to removing the trim clips (the "pins" that hold down the carpeting in the trunk)? I'm trying to install the cargo net in my trunk, and I've probably broken 2 or 3 of the tops of the clips, and partially mangled my fingers in the process as well.

Anyone have any suggestions/solutions on how to easily remove those clips so that 1. I don't break the top of the clip and 2. I don't lose any of my fingers...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I use a trim remover (Looks like a flathead, with a ~slight bend at the end and opens into a V)

a Flathead works nicely too

You might want to look at plastic tools. They are good for prying plastic parts without damaging them. They're better for dash board stuff, but it'll never hurt to grab a few from autozone or somewhere.

They are called panel poppers I think. You can also get them at Crutchfield.com.

Or, as a cheap alternative, they sell clip replacements at Autozone. So it might just be cheaper to buy some new clips if you're not going to be taking them off often.

Hmm...that's exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder if the Sears in Canuck-land carry this item. I've tried using flat head screwedrivers, but those are what busted up the heads of the clips. I have a nail puller (the one shaped like a screwdriver with the V at the front), but the V section I don't think is wide enough to get around the clip.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I used the nail puller I already had, and it worked great. Saved me from a few bleeding fingers and busted clips.

heat it up w/ a blow dryer or a heat gun before you try to take them out w/ a flat head.
