Sorry I should have put a warning before the link - can't go back and edit it now. Believe it or not, that was a real commercial that aired on TV in Europe for the Ford Ka. So surely it's CG, not somebody who videotaped something like that really happening. Actually, I don't get it, I think it's just about the most pointless and tasteless commercial ever. But I was just commenting (or trying to comment) to the discussion about auto-closing windows and sunroofs and the "pinch" hazard they could pose. The outcome depicted is actually a real (if exaggerated) possibility if/when auto-closing without pinch sensors in place (i.e. the other three windows, or the sunroof).

I was not so easily offended, and got your drift (on-topic related to safety issues with auto-closing windows.)

I'm highly suspicious that this was an ad that saw broadcast. Think about it. The animal lovers' backlash would've been disastrous not just for the car, but for the ad agency that cooked up such an idea.

Since so many of the items in this thread are actually in the manual(s), I think I'll start a new one....

Please don't. The original purpose of this thread was to discuss "easter eggs" i.e. undocumented features. As happens with a lot of threads, some people don't read the manual and start posting about an "undocumented" feature that in fact is documented. If you start a new thread about undocumented features it'll just turn into another thread like this one, so lets just keep it all in this thread.

I'm guessing the TSX AUTO driver window work like the Accord's. If it does, be careful. The driver's window can sense an obstruction for most of the upwards travel but not the last inch. If you stick your finger in there . . .

And holding the driver switch up overrides the auto-reverse. Interesting tho, for the 2008 Accord with AUTO front passenger window, holding the passenger window switch up does not disable the auto-reverse function.

An easter egg of sorts I came across while test driving last weekend...

The A/C was on LO so the fan was on max. I tapped the NAVI voice command button and the fan turned off. On my Accord the fan doesn't turn off so the NAVI has a 50/50 chance of hearing you correctly. I thought this was a neat detail. I usually turn the fan down or briefly turn the HVAC OFF if the fan is too high. Not sure if it happens at other fans settings.

Neat ... have to try that.

I noticed that if the MID display is blank, and I engage the cruise control and set the MID to show AVG MPG ... when I disengage the CC, the MID goes back to blank. When I resume the CC, the MID shows the info last select. I.e., remembers the selected MID info for both conditions.

I wish someone with some free time could consolidate this thread into a list of actual easter eggs. Wading through 13 pages with more than 300 messages of documented features that are on page one of the handy reference manual and lame jokes about how the key secretly unlocks the door is just too much for those of us who have to work for a living.

Color me tempted to ... I was musing with a mod about a separate thread for 'didja know' items. An FAQ on these might be kewl. I'll put my thinking cap on it just as soon as Ken Burns' THE WAR is finished on PBS.

If you just read through all 13 pages, you could have compiled the list for us already ;-P

I've noticed that there is actually some logic to the fan turning off when you press the voice command button. I forget the exact scenarios, but I remember there were times (dead of winter, IIRC) when my fan wouldn't shut off for voice commands. Seems like a nice feature, but unfortunately the system couldn't hear me properly half the time as a result.

I'm assembling the real tips together ... should I post it here at the end, or create a new thread so a mod can lock this one? It gets consufing, erm, confusing when more than one thread can be round on a search like "easter eggs."

Well, guys, please at your earliest opportunities go through the list and let me know if there's something I've got in there that has been proven wrong, or that I've left out. There were a few things I have tried that simply did not work (like the "mute radio on startup" trick), a couple I've left out.

Thanks a lot for making this. They should post this as a FAQ item. I'm particularily looking forward to trying the special nav mode that shows which satelites are being used.

I know this would reduce the document by 75%, but I would remove the items that are actualy in the manual because by definition they aren't easter eggs even if well hidden in the manual, as well as the farting/nearest BJ item, it's funny but not an easter egg. I think if you did that it would be more technical and FAQ worthy, but who decides these things, I don't know.

30 & 32 are duplicates of the same text and 31 is a less descriptive version of 30 and 32.

noticed that you included the "fart noise" turning on the AC and the nearest blowjob locating the nearest hotel. I have not been able to get either of those to work in my 07.

The "nearest blowjob" thing was done with a binding.

Yeah, I just gathered all the items in this thread that seemed plausible or another person said "hey it worked." I'd seen a video of the BJ trick, so I thought I'd type it in.

Thanks for the redundancy notes. Last night I started moving paragraphs around by topic a bit ... hence the duplicate paragraph.

I included items that people thought were "Easter eggs" but were in the manual ... as it was easy to just annotate it.

Ah, I don't have NAVI so I didn't know if the "satellite information" was the same as "satellite identity."

You're all great proofreaders and I plan to include you at the Champagne and sushi wrap party.... I'll post a copy with things that I didn't find references to highlighted.

I tried the nav diagnostic screen, there is all sorts of stuff in there besides which satelites the GPS is seeing. It's awwwwwwesome. You should get nav in your next car. Whenever I'm in a car without it I feel like someone took my computer and gave me a clock radio in return.

That's a bug, you won't find any there. Recommend updated DVD. Case closed.

I hear you. I like old tech for some things. By the time I replace this ride, NAVI may be STD equipment, and will be so much better that I won't be able to ignore it. But ... they need to elminate the "OK" prompt at every start. I am HATING the MLM annoy-o-meter that disables my MID until I jab at steering wheel buttons. 15% oil life my @55. 100% driver annoyance.

"Nearest BJ" worked in 05 TSX and also in my friends 05 TL as well. Takes you to hotels.

Believe it ... or not!

I'm a believer. Tonight, I jabbed the (i) INFO button to highlight the MLM service code, and on a whim jabbed the HFL TALK button and said, "*#@& you." The engine stopped and the CHECK ENG indicator came on. It wouldn't start until I bought it an air freshener. I won't make that mistake again....

Disclaimer: this thread is titled "Easter eggs?", not "It's all true" or even "Fair and balanced." Sense of humor and healthy skepticism recommended.

Just an update, I played with the intermittent wiper settings last night. Confirmed that, at least in the lowest setting, the blades wiped immediately when I took my foot from the brake at a full start. Nice, I usually do that manually when I'm in my Jeep (put them at slowest speed, then wipe once when moving forward again). (This is item 17.b. in the PDF I posted, compiled tips and tricks from previous posts in this thread.)

I'm not sure about if the slowest intermittent speed STOPPING when you brake to a halt. Anyone? ...Bueller?

and on the flip side...on the highest intermittent setting, when the car reaches a certain speed, the wipers speed up to the low/full on setting.

Yep, the the manual said > 12mph/20kmh. I wish I could reset it to 45mph. Below that, I often just need a 4 second delay (a very clean windshield, the rain beads up), above that, I need it whisked away more rapidly. Ah well, another trivial gripe....

The problem with reading the manual is that it's 99% super obvious stuff and only 1% cool magic shit. I rarely have the time to find needles in haystacks, and doing so is not good life management in general. In fact this thread has surpassed the manual in it's word count. Thank you davidspalding for the abridged version.

When I first bought the TSX I took the manual into the house to read it from cover to cover. I really wanted to know ALL about the car and how to care for it. It's a good read.

So far, only the "Easter eggs"

Okay, in the interests of enforcing "Easter Egg" theme, let me post those things which are reported which are NOT in the manual, nor in a TSB or service manual. If you want to see the stuff that is, check the PDF doc I've linked to ... perhaps later we'll do a "Look, Ma, what I found by RTFMing" thread (don't hold your breath).
  • If you click keyless entry fob LOCK button twice, and don't hear the beep, or honk, the trunk is open. The second beep indicates the security system is activated. (If it won't lock at all, a door is ajar.)
  • The "key is in the ignition" warning tone is four quick beeps. In Morse code, this stands for "H."
  • Underneath the armrest are what seems to be clips for credit cards (or passkey ID cards) and a pen.
  • The underside of the armrest tray has clips and a pass-through hole for cords. (Pat yourself on the back if you found this. In a review, CNET's editors couldn't figure it out.)
  • The center armrest slides forward.
  • The passenger window switches’ internal lighting is extinguished if the MAIN switch (driver's door control) is in the OFF position.
  • When you are using the wipers on the slowest intermittent speed and stop the car, the wipers will cease. The wipers will do a quick wipe of the windshield as soon as you take your foot off of the brake.
  • When the audio system is on, hold down the CD/AUX button for several (10?) seconds and you will hear a beep through your speakers. The clock, audio system, and climate control displays are turned off. Repeating the procedure turns them back on. If the ignition is turned off and on again, the displays reset.
  • On some models, immediately after starting the ignition, with the audio system on, clicking the steering wheel volume control twice (up or down) or turning the volume knob one click turns the volume to MIN. One owner indicated that the audio system turns on and ramps up the volume, and thinks that adjusting the volume overrides the increase.
  • There’s a small handle on the inside of the trunk lid, to the right of the license plate, to assist in closing the lid gently.
  • The HandsFreeLink (HFL) volume setting is set and remembered independently of the audio (radio/CD/AUX) system volume. The same audio system volume controls control it.
  • You can initiate a HFL diagnostic by pressing the HFL BACK button for five seconds.
  • NAVI map ZOOM fine tuning: press and hold either ZOOM buttons at least five seconds, allowing a zoom control 3 steps finer.
  • On NAVI systems, press and hold the JOYSTICK for ten seconds to toggle the display from night to day mode.
