Downshifting

Hello,

I have a TSX Automatic, with sport shift. While around town, I set it in automatic mode (no sport shift) and have noticed that if I am coasting - with speed slightly slowing down - that my TSX will automatically shift down, with a noticable 'jerk' in speed (higher rpm with a higher gear), slowing my car down more....kinda strange......and I need to know if this is 'normal' or not. Is this something to be concerned about? Its more annoying than anything...I would rather it not downshift until I push the pedal down for more speed.....not when the car is slowing down to a stop!

Any thoughts, or similar experiences?

Thanks!
Tod

That's mostly common. If it is a really jerky downshift you might have a problem but it sounds like it's functioning as designed.

I use SS 95% of the time. The auto-downshift, both in "M" and "D" occurs at such slow speeds (for the lower gear), you should not notice any engine braking. The speeds are:

5>4: 52 km/h
4>3: 32 km/h
3>1: 10 km/h

(sorry you'll have do the mph conversion if you want). You will want to verify that these are speeds your car shifts at.

The only time I notice engine braking is if I manually downshift more than 20 km/h over the above speeds. The tranny _has_ to shift down automatically as your speed slows, otherwise, the engine will lug and eventually stall because the gearing is too high for the slow speeds.
