I don't think it's necessary since the car is equipped with an immobilizer? They can break into the car but won't be able to move it, right? Probably given so many hours, the thief might be able to drive it off but will be difficult. It helps to use some kind of deterrent device but is it really necessary?

its better then nothing. but with the immobilizer, i feel pretty secure. although it does not prevent break ins. I think its a great tool to scare away theifs especially if they dont know that the car has a immobilizer. they see that and move on instead on breaking in and then finding out.
I would use it if you have to park it outside for a long time in a bad neighborhood.

If a thief really wants your car, they will take it, no matter what.
I would skip on the club/brake lock...too much hassle and yes an immobilizer helps, but almost every new car has one, and yet they are still stolen.
When I think of Portland I don't think of very much crime, but correct me if I'm mistaken.

I use the club. It is more a visual deterrant than anything else. The club can be defeated but I'm hoping that by seeing it the thief will not even bother to break in and move on to another car.

^^exactly. if it even deters someone, makes them think twice, or stalls them until someone is around so they won't do anything, it's done it's job.

If a thief thinks that the club is the only line of defense then wouldn't it make sense for the same thief to think that no club = no defense at all?

the club being necessary due to being the only line of defense, if i had immobilizer i wouldnt bother with club, than again im sure a thief would do their research before stealing a certain car

They sell a device for defeating the autolock. Repo guys use them. Undefeatable my ass.

Like they said, it is only a visual deterrent.

Just tow the car away. Break in, release the brakes, put it in neutral, move the car so that you can get a chain or rope attached, and pull it away. If a thief really wants it, they can get it. The only thing they can't do is drive your car away under its own power.

I've read that although you can't saw them with the typical hacksaw or cut them with bolt cutters, a HD cordless saw with an abrasive disk will make short work of them. Like the man said, they take enough extra time to defeat that most thieves will move on. Strangely enough, a MT will discourage some theves.

^^ that's one way
Its quicker to freeze the locking mechanism and then hit it with a hammer to shatter.

Because of this, club and autolock is like a fake blinking red light on the dash on a car which has no car alarm. "Peace of mind"? I don't think so.

Only thing worthwhile is ignition kill (immobilizer) or a car alarm that calls your cell phone when it goes off. (I don't think such car alarms exist)

So, insure your vehicle, don't leave expensive items in plain sight.

If you get bling bling rims, you better hope you're parking it in the garage, or around a very safe area.

I don't bother with the club or autolock.
The immobilizer and the 6MT shifter in plain sight is good enough peace of mind for me.

Um..you know a lot of ricers want the manual, right? We had a really bad storm come through at the end last February and my 5-speed '99 Civic was stolen that day. Never recovered the shell to this day. I bet some ricer's been abusing my car or parts from my car since then..
