Do MP3 CDs work in TSX Audio system?
#3
just curious, but does the 2nd gen TSX play MP3 cd's? i've heard they do have the hard drive (or is it a memory card slot) that you can upload your music to. i really wish our cars did play mp3s instead of having to buy the optional replacement.

The 2G has a USB port that you can plug a flash drive, external hard drive, etc into. I think I might have read somewhere about it having native iPod support too, but don't quote me on that one. As for the 1G, the changer doesn't support MP3 discs (but the 2G one does.) The optional add on MP3 player goes where the storage cubby does (above the Not an Ashtray.) Personally, I'd rather have the storage cubby, but to each his own.

That's odd. I have an 08 and haven't been able to get an MP3 disc to play in it. Those of you that are getting them to play, can you post what software you're using to burn them and the method? Which file system are you using? And what about folder structure? Are you putting all your songs in the same folder or are you able to sort them by artist, album, etc?

well, I download the songs.
they end up in a folder.
I open the folder, highlight all the songs and right click.
I then either add to burn list or play.
in the right hand pane, I click the burn button or whatever.
I don't have any of it open, but that's what my
memory is telling me.
my hard drive holding all my songs isn't being recognized
for some reason... damn motherboard problems.

I use Roxio EZ CD Creator 5 to burn my CDs. It apparently creates cda files so they look like a CD.
I also am able to play CD-RW discs that I burn with Roxio. Those are handy for me since I prefer not to waste plastic.

A major bone of contention with a few perceptive 2008 shoppers was that the brochure clearly indicated "two ways" to play MP3s, either via the AUX input, or "MP3 formatted CDs" (that is, CD-Rs formatted with up to 650 MB of .MP3 files on them). So far's I've heard, the 2008 head units don't play such discs. They MIGHT'VE switched audio head units mid-year, but I'd be surprised.
You who say "they play fine," will probably find that you're burning with Media Player and that only 70 minutes or less of music fits. That's WMP converting WMAs and MP3s to plain Red Book Audio CDs. "Sorry, Charlie, only the best-tasting tuna," blah blah blah....
Yes, the 2009 TSX has a USB/iPod input and you can control an iPod (certain recent versions, that is) through the audio head unit.

Well, at that point, you've just burned a mix CD. Just about any CD player out there will play that. What the OP was talking about was putting a bunch of songs (easily 100+) onto a single disc. With a 6 disc MP3 changer, you could hold quite a collection without the need for an external player. And yes, the literature for the 08 clearly states that it plays MP3s. But I've taken an MP3 disc out of my friend's Camry, put it in my 08's CD changer, and it won't do jack with it.

From what I'm reading, the people who claim it works are writing audio cd's from their computer. Sure they are on your PC as MP3's, but you are writing an audio cd that is, for all intents and purposes, no different from a cd you buy in the store. And yes, that will work. But the OP asked about MP3's on a cd, which is completely different. An MP3 CD is a computer formatted, non-audio CD. The info on the CD is data. It's literally no different than sticking your 'World of Warcraft' CD in your car an expecting it to do something. This type of CD will only work in computers or CD players specifically made to read computer formatted MP3 CDs. These will NOT work in 1G TSX's. (I can personally confirm not working in 06 and older, no for 07 -08 based on other posts)

It WON'T play CD's containing mp3's burned as "data CD's". If the CD has more than twenty mp3s on it it's probably a "data CD".
It WILL play CDs made from mp3 files burned as "audio CD's". If you try to put more than twenty or so mp3s on an "audio CD" your computer will tell you there is not enough room on the blank CD.

I dont have the web link anymore. But if you want MP3 to play in our car its about $700 extra if i remember. Basically Acura will replace ur current Audio Playback Device with a one that can play MP3. now if you have an 08 then u have an AUX input. just buy an ipod for 400 and use that, it stores more songs, and give a better sound quality. Especially if you have loud subs like mine, with the ipod its so loud that my rear windows rattels i have to keep the bass to -2 to stop it......

Yep. The difference in "HOW" is that an audio CD will hold =< 74 minutes, but a 650 MB CD-R full of 96 kbps MP3s will hold hours upon hours of music. With the price of mp3 players so low that they're a disposable commodity (heck, my PHONE plays MP3s, and has a 1 GB card in it), I feel the AUX jack is the way to go.
Only drawback is that you can't control an iPod or any other MP3 player on the head unit in the dash. There is a nifty little cord pass-through hole on the tray and the front of the armrest to feed the cord out to the cup holders or forward to the "not an ashtray" (which will hold many small MP3 players). So if you promise not to fiddle with your player while straddling the broken white line and holding a phone conversation, this works fine for most people's roadway listening needs.

I just use my iPod through the hole on the armrest. I was wondering though, if I was to have Acura install the factory MP3 player that was an option, would it take up one of my cubby holes (not an ashtray), or would it be built into the CD player? Mine's an '06.
