DIY: Front License Plate Holder Paint Protection

hey guys.....
are you living in a area where the law requires you to run a front license tag?
well, whether you know this or not, the holder for the TSX has a design issue where the top part of the license plate holder rubs of the paint from the front of the car due to engine vibrations
this DIY will show you how to prevent just that

so without further ado.....

Cost:
Free - $15
(Mainly the cost is from the cd's and the glue)

Tools Needed:
1 Acura TSX
1 Tube of Super Glue (Krazy Glue, Gorilla Glue, etc. Just make sure it doesnt melt plastic)
1 Blank CD Roundel (The kind that you buy from Office Depot, Staples, etc.)

STEP 1:
Take the foam piece used to protect the blank cd's out

STEP 2:
Glue the top end of the foam to the top part of the license plate holder

STEP 3:
Once the top piece is dry glue the other sides down

STEP 4:
Glue the sides down

Completed Project:

this DIY has lasted me months through daily driving and car washes so....
enjoy!
P.S. and yes, i know my camera work is a little shaky.....

I did the same thing with my car months ago, however i used more than one of those things on the corners as well. Most cars that back into it will hit it at an angle, in my experience with my TL. So having them in the corners as well will help. Glad to see other people using this method though.

Surprised people didn't catch onto this earlier.

Does anyone make a mount to put the license plate inside the window, one that'll keep it still?

^^ i dont think so

according to cali law, the plate has to be mounted on the car and it cannot be in the windsheild or anywhere else

nice diy....i'll try that when i decide to put my plate back on. right now, i'm taking the risk of having it off....looks a lot better without it. i actually have the "scratch" mark from the top part of the frame when I had the plates on my car for a while......it sucks.

Why not get some weather stripping from Lowe's and use that? One side is sticky, and you just stick it on the frame.

For me, I relocated the plate frame down to cover the gap, then I used the weather strip on the bottom of the plate in case it ever swings back onto my bumper

You should just leave it in your trunk, and maybe break part of the license plate bracket and use that as an excuse as to why you can't mount it.

And I don't know about your airport, but at my local airport LAX, they take pictures of every incoming car, and you will be pulled over and ticketed if you have no front license plate.

And having a plate in your front window just makes it obvious that your front plate isn't mounted, and it can become a projectile in an accident. The law specifically states that it has to be mounted...so putting it in the windshield does nothing at all
