Did Tweeter screw up my navigation system?!?!
Ok, so here is the story.
I've been searching for a place to install an IceLink in my 2004 tsx with nav. I've been talking to the mobile install manager at tweeter for the past week and after printing out pictures and directions for him to install the icelink he agreed to do it. He installed it today and it works amazing. I really love it. We used the Honda/Acura Icelink and he modified the honda auxillary cable that I bought from a Honda parts store. He then spliced it according to all the directions people have given that have done this installation.
Here comes the bad part. My nav is FUCKED. The touch screen requires 3-6 touches for anything to work, its freezing on certain screens. Even the actual buttons below the nav don't respond on the first try. The GPS is fine as its tracking my car perfectly. The directions are fine and the voice speaking is fine. The nav still recognizes my voice and responds appropriately, but the touch screen is just real messed up.
Its obvious that this is because something Tweeter did. I didn't tell the isntall guy that he needed to unplug the battery to install the system. Is that normal procedure when installing any stereo equipment in a car? Would he have known to do that? I don't even know if that would cause a problem, especially since everything else is working fine.
I'd appreciate any feedback on this and what I should do. I'm fairly certain Acura is going to tell me to go to hell if I show up with the Icelink installed.
Thank you.

Unplugging the battery is standard on doing any electricals installs. Primarily because you can short something out if the battery is still connected.
However... if he's a professional installer... he should know that he should disconnect the battery before even touching anything. Also... if he's a reputable installer, he would offer to pay to get anything fixed that he broke. Does he know about this yet? How long did the install happen prior to this?

The installation took place yesterday, which is when the problems started occuring. He will not be in again until Monday so I will call first thing then and let him know. The installer was a very friendly guy and I trust he will be honest with me. I'm just very frustrated right now and hope it can be fixed, not at my expense.
Ok, so I hopped in my car this morning after I woke up and tried the Nav again and everything is working fine. I'm going to be doing some driving today so I'll check it out later also. Keep any ideas coming though. Should I still call up Tweeter tomorrow if the problem is gone? I do NOT want this problem coming back, it was really annoying.
I believe there have been others on this board that have experienced a similar problem with the IceLink while using the Blitzsafe adapter. I am running out the door, so I cannot search for the post, but your problem sounds familiar.
I have not heard of this problem, but I've been trying to make time this weekend to test that same deal in our 04 TSX nav.
It's possible that the nav was just needing to be reset... or it's possible that the wire that carries data for the nav touchscreen also carries the data for the icelink, and they interfere (it may be that Icelink never tested for that).
Keep us posted and I'll try to test this today or tomorrow (spent yesterday taking longer than expected to complete the high-end demo board).

In examining the wiring codes for that input (cjams just posted them over in AV) and the used and unused wires on the Icelink Honda plug, the only thing I can come up with is interference with the nav data bus. Pins 9 and 10 seem to be the bus (+) and (-) wires for the nav.
The Icelink has pins in these wires as well (but they don't stuff them all - the dimmer (+) and (-) are empty, for instance). THese wires are the data lines that the Icelink (or SHOND) use to tell the HU to enable the AUX input.
So IF your problem continues (at the time of the last post from as I write this, the problem had disappeared at least temporarily) as a test I would have Tweeter make sure they got those wires right, and if they did, try it for a few days with just those wires disconnected. (This should cause the HU to not recognize the icelink at all, but I'd still leave all those other wires).
Hopefully this is moot because you never have the problem again... but...
If disconnecting those wires solves the problem, then the icelink is indeed interfering with the nav bus. If it doesn't solve the problem then try unplugging everything. If that doesn't solve the problem something was permanently damaged. Good luck and hope it's all over already.

Ok so I diagnosed the problem a little further. It seems that when the engine is started the problem persists and its real bad. However, if just the battery is turned on (I turn the key to the right, but dont start the engine), everything works perfect. It's very strange. Can anyone elaborate a little more on what the problem might be with this scenario? Maybe not enough electricity is getting to the nav?
I have this problem sometimes, but mostly when I am being impatient and just keep pressing the screen. It seems like it takes twice as long when I wann push buttons. Let the Navi warm up first. and then try. If not reset or disconnect and retry.
Good luck!

mine does this once and a while during start-up. I have never really figured out why this happens, but it is something i deal with. you might just have to do the same if you want your aux input.
