Did my first powerslide today

I was taking a sharp left turn to get onto an onramp and conditions were good, I decided to see what this baby can do, so I stepped on the gas before and while turning... and out the back went, tires squeeling. I had to make a quick swerve to the right to correct. I knew all these hours of playing NFS would pay off.

The thing with the TSX is that the car feels totally flat when you do this type of thing, my Accord would have told me "I'm about to tip over!"

I've done this several times in my TSX too, one time I almost lost control, but quickly regained control easily. The TSX's tires have a lot of grip. I made two videos of me powersliding my TSX in a parking lot last summer.

Playing games like NFS does pay off lol.

How do you purposely do this? Is it purely a speed thing, or do you have to step on or let go of the gas at some point? What's the formula?

I have an AT by the way.

one easy way to do is .. i think i read this somewhere from skunk2 .. they run stiffer sway bar and strut bar in the front than the back .. the back , they keep it softer to get the back end swing more when they are taking a turn. use that and it can help you get your back end swing more

Not a real powerslide by the sounds of it. Are you sure it wasnt understeer and you instead managed to slide the tail? The only FWD car I know that can do a throttle powerslide is a Prelude SH.

Ken is right. It was not really a powerslide but it is just as fun!

Yea I guess with FWD you can't make the rear wheels spin by giving power...

I guess you can call it a fish-tail then?

How I do it is get some speed and then lift the e-brake and jerk the wheel to a direction I want to spin and it should spin. Sometimes its not a 360 spin though, but close enough.

I turn off VSA before I do it though.

Yes, this was a very special time because my wife wasn't in the car. Also I am concerned about tire wear. But once in a blue moon, if you know there's no danger to the car and to other people...

You don't get speed. You just lose less.

Actually, if you run your rear end really stiff (springs/swaybar) you can get the rear end to come out easier. The TSX (along with most production cars) is designed to have understeer rather than oversteer... You can even get some adjustable shocks and set the rears to full stiff, and you'll get some entry and exit oversteer; but mid-corner you'll probably push like a hog if that's the only modification... Just my ...

I'll take a hit of what you're smoking...in the wet they will chirp if you launch at like 2500 RPM.

yeah dude every day if i hit the gas too hard making a turn i hear the outer tire just speak up
i wanna smack it and tell it to do its job, i admit they have some good traction but i think the car plays alot in that role too.

oh well sooner or later ill change up the tires, but thats muchh later down the road

you have it backwards. bigger rear sway and stiffer rear shocks wlil increase oversteer. what you suggested increases understeer

I was surprised by the title. How could TSX do powerslide...

Anyways, a couple of other technique to kick the tail out --
1. get up to speed (6k rpm in 2nd for example) , turn into the corner and lift throttle.
2. get up to speed (same as above), brake in straightline, quickly turn steering the wrong way and then right way, while releasing brake when turning into the right way. You can also use left foot to tap the brakes to create even more tail out action.

Try this at your own risk. Put more pressure into the back tire helps too. Have fun and be safe.

lift off oversteer,

few honda car cars can do this, EK series Civic, DC2/DC5 integra....this has caught some ppl out on the street and damaged their vehicle.

I'm suprised that such a largish car like TSX can do lift off oversteer..NICE!
