DesignTech Daytime Running Lights Kit

DesignTech Daytime Running Lights Kit
Does anyone know if the DesignTech Daytime Running Lights kit found at Autobarn will work in the TSX?
This just might be the solution for the lack of DRL in the USDM TSX.
Not sure if anyone posted this before so it's worth a try...

After a search at other sections on AcuraZine, I have found this:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...running+lights
This person over at the TL forum installed the DesignTech kit on his car and he is using his fog lights as DRLs. As you can see, he says they turn off when your headlights are on. I'm guessing it can be done to the high beams on the TSX also (with the right wiring).
I agree, DRL low beams would be bad for a TSX's HIDs, useless, and pointless to have.
I'm just curious if anyone has tried it on the TSX.
As the time comes near for me to pick up my new car, I have created a list of some possible mobs I would like to do to it.
I like the DRLs on the RLs and I think they would look awesome on a TSX.

CCC, I am curious why you "hate" them? I often hear that people who have them don't want them and visa versa.
The only reason I think people would be against them is that the DRLs make the car more (too) noticeable which wouldn't be good if the driver is aggressive and trying to be stealth to hide some illicit manuevers.
My last car I turned on my regular headlights and I am pretty sure it has saved a couple of close calls by distracted drivers initially not seeing me (pedestrians too). BTW I commute 70 miles per day, every day (through the city and highway) So obviously I am in the Want Them Camp and just curious what your aversion is?

A lot of cars use the highbeams but with reduced power as DRLs. I like the idea of using the fog lights, but it's not like they're terribly bright -- you could just turn them on whenever without worrying about reducing the strength, I'd think.. Well, depending upon how they were wired. (If you had something other than stock, you might be able to turn them on independently....)
Someone said that the US spec TSX could be reprogrammed to have DRLs if you wanted. Might be worth asking your dealer if you really want it.

vidgamer. I asked about using fogs too. someone on azine quoted a state law--I forget which state, but bottom line was that it prohibited fogs without headlights. So I check california dmv and there is a minimum hight for front lights and our fogs might not make it. I suspect that using stock fogs requires quite a bit of wiring changes one person on azine from the US move to Canada and found it difficult to retrofit the stock TSX fogs. I was surprised on how difficult he had it.
I deal with just driving with my HIDS on. the only pain is reseting the instrum panel brightness for day and night. oh well there are tougher things in life.

I have JDM foglights from Ebay, and I have them wired and relayed through the parking lights. So I can turn them on independently from my Lowbeams.
Here in Seattle, the SPD is not too concerned about foglights on without headlights. I drive by them all the time with just my fogs on, and no heat from the po-po.
My friend did however get a ticket for not having front license plates on his 04 BMW 325i.

Well the guy with the TL above is using the "fog lights" in his headlights similar to what Infiniti G35s have. As most of you know the 4th gen TL has bi-xenon headlights so the light camber next to the projectors are fog lights.
DRLs would help people extend the life and intensity of their HIDs while adding safety.

FWIW my canadian 1995 civic (no HIDs) still used the high beams for DRLs. I think that might be the law in canada or something.
I love DRLs and wish I had them in the T, it's so annoying to have to turn the headlights on (and turn the nav display to force day mode) when it rains.

Also they don't want you driving around at night or in the rain with just fogs, because they are not bright enough. And real functional foglights (as opposed to the decorative ones we have) should not be lit unless there is actual fog because their wider aim can cause them to blind other drivers.

I tried to use the Design Tech DRL module and it kept blowing a fuse. I do use a DRL module from http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm
which lights up the front ambers.

In Canada it is law to have DRL's, its is the high beam , but powered down and the rear lights are not on . It makes it alot easier to see people on the highway ect.... I will take a pic today to show what it looks like.

I see the benefit of DRL's every time I drive to my Mom's house. There's one stretch that's about 10 miles of perfectly straight road with nothing but pastures and the occasional house on either side. During the day, the DRLs make it a lot easier to see oncoming traffic to pass. They help to guage distance to the oncoming vehicle too. I always turn my headlights on when I get to that stretch.
