Decoding your VIN, engine, transmission, and paint codes

OK, I searched but didn't find anything clearly about this, so here's a quick rundown of 2004-2006 US/Canada TSX VIN numbers and paint codes:

VIN (Located on bottom of B-piller at rear base of drivers door, under the hood, and under the lower drivers windshield glass) is comprised of 8 elements.

First three elements are identical from 04 to 06. They are "JH4" (Acura passenger vehicle), "CL9" (Acura TSX/K24A2), and "5" (Manual) or "6" (Automatic).

The fourth element is "8" (TSX) or "9" (TSX w/Navi) for US vehicles and "7" (TSX) or "8" (TSX w/side curtain airbags for 04-05 and plain TSX for 06) for Canadian vehicles.

The fifth element is a check digit.

The sixth element is vehicle year; "4" (2004), "5" (2005), or "6" (2006).

The seventh element is always a "C" for the Saitama Factory in Japan.

The eight element is the serial number, "000001" and up is US model and "800001" and up is a Canadian model.

The engine codes are always K24A2, but the serial numbers vary. 2004 serials start at 1000001, 2005 serials start at 2000001, and 2006 serials start at 3000001.

The transmission numbers are the same throughtout, that is "ASU5" is the manual and "MCTA" is the automatic. However thw serial numbers begin at 1000001 for 2004, 3000001 (yes, 3 not 2) for 2005, and 4000001 for 2006.

Paint codes (located on B-piller just above latch striker):
2004
SSM - NH-623M
PWP - NH-624P
CGP - NH-658P
NBP - B-92P
IBP - B-502P
ABP - B-507P
MSM - B-522M
MR - R-81

2005
Same as 2004 except delete IBP

2006
Same as 2005 except delete SSM and MSM plus
RBP - B-536P
GBM - B-538M
DGP - G-516P
ASM - NH-700M

The one in the FAQ seems wrong. If it states correctly, then my car was made in Lansing, MI. I highly doubt that...
