Debadging...DOH!

Ok, in my typical fashion, I act first, do a forums search second.

This afternoon my stepson talks me into removing the emblems - something my wife wanted but wasn't in a rush for me to do. Had some time to kill...what the heck. Blowdryer + extension cord? Check. Plastic putty knife and plenty of QD spray? Check. 3M wax remover? Check. Wax & MF towel? Check...onto the fun.

Before:

After:

And by "after," I mean "after that painstaking moment where I curse Acura for mounting their damn 'A' with two posts. I'd made a perfect surgical slice through the adhesive already, and there wasn't a darn thing I could do...except curse a few more times. In case anyone wants to know what rests behind the 'A'...

Easy fix - trip to Pep Boys for 3M adhesive tape, a bit of trimming, and bada boom. I just felt like an idiot for awhile there, and I have to admit I'd prefer a clean trunk lid with no emblems. Oh well...

You should've listen to your wife "Queen of Everything". At least you were able to put the "A" back on instead of breaking it and having to buy a new emblem.

I don't get the debadging thing. Why do people not want them there? To pretend it's some mystical car that nobody else has?

I'm thinking of doing it only because I like the clean lines of the rear without the badges. I don't have any misconceptions that people will think its a mystical car People that know cars will know that its a TSX, they don't have to have it labeled. People who don't know cars wouldn't know what a TSX is anyway. Besides, the (A) badge would still be there.

Well I guess if you like the way it looks. To each his own. Seems like one thing to do it on a cheap Civic DX, but luxury cars I dunno.

For me its the fact that the "ACURA" and "TSX aren't set in the same font and style. Seriously, it would look so much better if they matched, but they don't.

But then again, I haven't taken my badges off yet I plan too soon tho. Lazinesssss.......

I debadged my car a few months ago (The A is still on). I personally love the clean look. It's all about how you feel. After doing so, I found myself checking out other cars and thinking... "He should debadge - it would look cooler!" But it's how you feel and dats about it. That... and it makes your car go 10% faster!!! =P

Very German. I approve.

And the font mismatch has bothered me from day one, although my laziness is inertia at its finest.

I debadged mine the other day. Took about 5 minutes. My husband held the hairdryer (burning my fingers) while I worked the dental floss. I love the clean look. Don't miss the badges at all. Stuck them to a garage cabinet.
I'd like to post some pics someday but the weather's been bad and I'm still not quite sure how to post pictures although I read the FAQ. I guess I should just try it and hope for the best.

People who know cars will know it's a TSX and think, " why would anyone strip the badges off of a TSX? Maybe it was in a wreck and he hasn't had them put back on yet...?"

It adds 10 more HP. I've seen some debadged and it does look clean. To each their own.

No no no no. Stickers add horsepower, debadgining reduces weight.

So... apparently after debadging, you end up with two A-holes.

^ That was a good one.

For me it's pretty simple - I'm not trying to hide anything, I just prefer the look. My SUV has no exterior emblems for the same exact reason. Personal preference, plain and simple.

I did it to my old Denali and did it to my TSX. "To each his own" like I always say. I prefer the way it looks without the badges than with, that simple.

Gotta ask. What did you use a putty knife for?

It wouldn't be hard at all to replace them - I had the 'A' back on in just a few minutes. Measuring and placement would be the trickiest parts, but some blue masking tape would simplify that.

I used the putty knife to remove the emblems. I find it to be much easier to use than dental floss for this job - much more gentle on the hands, and controlling the path to navigate between the paint and adhesive is pretty easy. It leaves very little of the adhesive behind, making cleanup a snap.

Anybody???
What's the best/safest thing to use to take the glue off.
I used WD-40 on my last car, but hear that wasn't a good idea. Although my clearcoat didn't suffer from the WD-40.

I always thought it took a hair dryer and dental floss to keep from scratching the paint. Go figure. One day I'll do it.
