Dealership Bluetooth issue..

So I just picked up my car from an oil change at Honda....and my phones have been deleted from the bluetooth. This is the second time this has happened after an oil change at Honda.

Are the techs accidentally deleting my paired phones when they reset the MID? When I had the oil changed at Acura my phones were not deleted.

I was just wondering if that has happened to anyone else after resetting the oil life on the MID.

Nope, resetting the MID shouldnt reset nor delete the paired phone. What i thought is that the tech donno what he was doing, and tried to reset everything, and even delete your paired cell phone, until he reset the oil life........

Sounds plausible to me. Maybe tell the service manager, "Don't attempt to reset the MID maintenance minder, let me do that. Period. End quote."

Yikes, resetting the "Oil Life" indicator is NOT rocket surgery. More indications of the superb (cough) quality of dealerships and service depts. in the NE. :P

At least deleting phones doesn't delete the phonebook as well!

not sure how he is removing the pairing. I don't even think disconnecting the battery removes the pairing.

Only by doinking around in HandsFreeLink, unless there's a "under the covers" method. But if your phonebook is intact, a complete HFL reset doesn't sound likely.

I'm wondering if the tech was using it, and decided to delete all phones to cover his/her tracks. Granted, couldn't use your phone (UNLESS you left it in the car!!), but still. I'd be puzzled enough to ask the service manager.

Hahaha. The oil change did take 1 hour 45 mins....so maybe the tech was using my HFL for fun. He commented on how they almost never see Acuras in their service dept.

I never added any entires to the phonebook...but my other cellphone was deleted from the pairing as well.

I guess I won't be going back to that Honda dealer. $37.75 seems like a lot for just an oil change anyway. They didn't even clean the car like Acura does.

"We almost never see Acuras here." "Oh," I might say," then how did you know how to delete my phone from HFL?"

I'm joking. I presume that you determined that "phones were deleted" by the command "Phone - Setup - List," not just a failure to connect. I've had my phone "disconnected" or deleted by accident once or twice. I just re-paired. NBD. And I'm beginning to doubt they did this purposefully. To do so would require teh following sequence (for each phone):
  1. Phone - Setup - List
  2. Phone - Delete - [name of phone]
  3. Yes
  4. Ok (yep, double confirmation according to the 2007 manual)
(p. 219)

System - Clear ... deletes phones, as well as the phone book, as well as the passcode. (p. 225). You could use a passcode (p. 215) before getting serviced, but frankly, I don't know how to clear the passcode without clearing everything as above.

Actually, $37.75 doesn't seem bad. Labor for an oil change and lube generally runs me $16-20 at a AAA Automark here in NC. If they do an inspection (belts and hoses check, etc.) that seems reasonable to me. (I bring my own oil -- their normal charge for a "synth" oil change is $70. For that, I'd want a complimentary wash 'n wax, and a chocolate mint on my driver's seat. )

You can't. It's not possible to delete the password without deleting everything else. I want to get rid of my pw bc like you said, I'm not leaving my phone in the car so I don't car if anyone tries to use it. BUT...I don't want to delete all of the numbers and passwords to voicemail accounts that I've stored so I just deal and I've gotten in the habit of putting in the pw as soon as I get in the car.

However, I was thnking about continuing to use Honda for oil changes since it's literally 3 minutes from my apt and Acura is at least 30 minutes away. But after frack's experience, I'm not so sure I want to do that anymore.

If all that's happening is the pairings disappear, that's NBD IMHO. Pairing's easy.
