Dealer's "ordering window"?
Dealer's "ordering window"?
I've been told by a dealer that they have limited opportunities every month to order a car, like a window of 2 or 3 days. After that window passes, you have to wait until the next month's window. Has anyone else been told that? Is this guy just trying to hurry my decision? Colin, this might be a question you can help me with.

Actually, that maybe true. The dealer I ordered from only orders on the 3rd and 18th of each month. It was some stupid policy. The dealer manager is a good friend of mine, and he personally ordered the car for me.
it is true that most dealers only order a few times a month. However in most cases the dealer tells you this to make you rush into buying a car. the truth is that ALL dealers have contact with one another and it is common practice for them to "swap" inventory according to demand. In your case it is possible that the dealer doesn't have the car and other dealers will not give it to him, it all depends on how many of your particular trim are available in your area. my recommendation is to not rush into ordering a car (especially if your deposit is not refundable) and do some shopping around.
This is totally true. It's called the MOVE allocation. The reason for the 'stupid policy' is that the number of cars you'e allowed to order is based on a forumla of how many (of that model) you sold during he selling period. The selling period ends with a cutoff date when all sold units must be reported, then a few days later you get the allocation and have that 2-3 day window to place your orders. It is a misconception that dealers can order as many cars as they want. Acura tell us how many we can order based on sales performance. If we are allocated 12 TSXs, we need to decide how to split them up between the colors and transmissions.

I thought my buddy was messing with me at first with this MOVE Allocation. Thanks for clearing this up for me, Colin!
