Dealer really likes to rip people off.....

Went to the dealer for oil change only. While wating, the rep came out later and told me that they also recommend replacing both air and cabin filters.

Price....

$176.60

Told him that I'll do it myself. After a disappointed look in his face, he went back to put the old filters back in the car.

Went to local auto store... Bought FRAM filters. For both filters, $35 dollars and 15 minutes of my time.

$130+ dollars LABOR for just swapping out air filters, which the tech can do in like 10 minutes. It's not like doing a brake job or an engine swap.... Is the filter made from velvet or something?

What the hell is this world coming to.....

Oil change was 40 dollars. $176.60 was JUST for filters that he quoted. So If i was stupid enough to do the filters also, it would've cost me over 200 dollars.

Freakin highway robbery.

And now you know why they're referred to as stealerships.

I would have taken your car to Honda. Most likely would have been cheaper to purchase the filters.

Everyone knows that dealerships don't make much money off of selling new cars. After all, everyone works with the invoice price, not MSRP.

The dealerships make money by selling parts and services, as well as selling used vehicles that they bought for dirt cheap.

Dealerships wanted $200 just to replace the cabin filter on my MDX. It takes a bit to get at in an MDX (TSX is much easier), but was a 30 min job and a $30 part when all was said and done. Ridiculous.

I think anything you can do yourself, do it.

Well, you did good. Once I was doing an oil change and I had the left tail light bulb burned and was procrastinating on it but planning on replacing it my self (6$ or so). After working on the car, the front desk dude comes back and says ok, $40 oil and $45 for your left tail light. I asked: "Who told you to do that?" ...His boss was sitting in the back looks at me then looks at the other dude and says, "ok, put the burned one back". In a moment of weakness I said, ok leave it. Driving home I was telling my self how dumb I was....They both had a thief's look, like "we got you, you idiot". I will never forget that...needess to say, I did not come back to them...Anyway, I am sure there are millions of stories...I have no idea if there is an honest dealership somewhere!!!!!

They're supposed to quote the price before they do any work. So if you go in for oil change, and they find a burnt bulb, they're supposed to inform you that the bulb is out and that it will cost X dollars to replace it.

They can't just do it and expect you to pay for it at check out.

You should've replied. "Wow, is the bulb made from emerald or something?"

Yeah....thats fine and understandable. But when they charge triple or quadruple for a part and a massive amoumt of labor for something that takes ten minutes like changing those filters, thats just criminal.

I hate these threads, every business out there is out to make money. A friend of mine owns a liquor store and most of their stuff is marked up over 100%.

Your FRAM filters may be cheaper but Honda/Acura is going to charge more because its an oem part, If you don't like the price quoted ask them to break it down seperately and see if there's anything they can do. As slow as business is i'd be shocked if you couldn't get them to come down 9 times out of 10.

Hey everyone has to make money. There is overhead for the tech, the SA, and the employees of the dealership. Do I agree that they should charge $150-200 for 2 air filters that take 10 minutes top to replace? No, but they get away with it. Now if you knew what you had to remove in the gen 6 Accord to get to these things I don't think you would have a problem paying it. I've done it a few times now but it still takes me about 1/2 hr to get the bottom dash and glovebox removed to get to them. I guess Honda does learn slowly with their mistakes.

who you should really feel bad for is the poor old lady on fixed income that comes in and gets taken for a ride by these punks. I understand business is business but old people should be off limits.

Everything i am forced to take my car to the dealer i watch in amazment at what normal people are told and take for the truth. but thats life

and cabin filter on the 6th gen accord is super retarded. you have to take half the cabin apart. i did it once and it took one hour because they had the bolts on so tight from the factory that i stripped em
