Dealer not wanting to give a loaner??

I have an 08 TSX that I bought from Power Acura of South Bay and I'm taking my car in for repair service on monday because my A/C started whistling at high speed and my bluetooth had very bad noise in the background.
Since I go to school, I requested a loaner to take when I drop off the car in the morning. However, these bastards dont want to give out a loaner unless it's for a recall.
What the hell? At first, they said they don't give out a loaner for maintenance and I said this is for repair, and he said "we only give it out for recall reasons".
I thought some dealers give out loaners for routine maintenance and why the hell is this dealer giving me shisty reasons?
Any suggestions how I should take this?

You still won't get a loaner unless you're 25.

I had problems with Power Acura of South Bay in the past too. The service reps have attitude problems. I suggest you called ahead and arrange a loaner at the time you make your appointment.

it's a personal thing.

the dealer obviously gives out loaners.
just not to you.

they pull it a bunch.

my local Acura dealer will give me any car as a loaner,
or let me test drive any car I want, no ride along, no time
limits, nothing. I'm lucky I guess.

but while sitting there having my oil changed one day, I heard
them deny a kid (20 yrs. oldish) a loaner car while his car
was being fixed.

so yeah, maybe it is that 25 year old age thing.
but aside from that, if that's all it was, that's what they would say.
but in your case and many others it's also personal.
they don't trust you for whatever reason.

Yeah, getting a loaner has everything to do with how old you are.

I went into the dealership for an oil change and an evap system check (fuel cap light problem.) I made the appointment on Saturday and got in on Monday morning at 8am. I could have gotten earlier, but I didn't get off work until 7 so I wanted to make sure I wasn't late. I asked about the loaner, but they said that on average you needed to make your appointment about 5 days in advance. They don't have that many of them and that dealership is pretty busy. Sure enough, there was only 1 sitting in the loaner area, and no others on the lot. And that 1 was given to a guy coming in with a TL with transmission issues. I heard him talking to the service rep and they were apparently going to have it for a few days, so I didn't feel bad about him taking it.

The service advisor told me they'd be more than happy to give me one, even if I was just dropping it off for an oil change. Just as long as I made the appointment far enough in advance. I'll be due for my next change in about a month, so I might test that theory then and make my appointment a week in advance.

Los Gatos Acura gave me a loaner for maintenance service. Their reason is BS. If it was age, they should tell you straight up. go to a different dealer

they dont even know my age so it's a BS. I just talked to them on the phone and thats what they told me without asking for my age. I guess I now have a reason for ditching a class... but yeah I'm going to go to different dealer for services done on my car from now on

Wrong.

Where did you get this info? I'm not 25, still got loaners every time whenever my car was in for service.

depends on the dealer-some will not lend to anyone under 25. Same goes for car rental places.

Right.

Got the answer directly from my dealer (DCH Montclair Acura). They're technically not allowed to give out loaners to anyone under the age of 25.

Performance Acura in Chapel Hill told me a while back that loaners are only for warranty repairs and the like. YMMV. But definitely ASK about a loaner when you make the appointment.

Maybe just in your region. Do you remember the YouTube video some months back of two youngsters in a "loaner TSX" dropping the clutch and squealing around some neighborhood? I seem to recall a lot of conjecture as to which 'hood in NY/NJ/LI that was. Maybe the dealers are tightening up on the loaners to young adults.

Just a WAG....

so today I went in for the appointment and I asked for the loaner again. The service guy told me that they have to see the problem and if it's under repair warranty and takes more than a day, then they will give me a loaner. Is this how it is for most dealers? He said most of the customers drop off the car and come back to take the loaner. I couldn't affored to ditch school so I made an appointment for later time. I said it doesn't really matter how much in advance I make an appointment for loaner, they make the decision if they want to give it out or not. Cheap bastards........

i thought my dealer was bad... the one and only dealer here will give out loaners based on availability of cars, regardless of type of service you are in for. you just need to call in advance and ask for it with your service advisor... sounds like they are being jerks about it. so much for that 'luxury' image...

they do allow loaner to people under 25 .. the 25 age generally viewed as the age wher eyou drive much safer. ie .. car insurance goes down when you hit 25 .. basically they're not gonna give you their loaner car for you to drive when they have a feeling that you can't drive well. it's more of a trust thing. i've gotten loaners myself before i even hit 25. the first time i brought my car in for repair and i didn't get one, but as more time i come in and my service adviser saw my car condition and got the idea i can take care of my car and drive well enough.

I'm sorry guys, has it escaped notice that this kind of policy may vary from one dealer to another? Hello?

i know its dependant upon the dealer, but I am 22 and ive gotten a loaner car from my dealer atleast 3 or 4 times now, and if it matters all work up until this time has been covered under warranty. Hence, none of the work done to my car was routine maintance

You're correct. Loaner cars are offered on a dealer by dealer basis. There's nothing saying any dealer HAS to provide one but most will do so because it is good customer relations. Others have gone to the "warranty repairs only" routine.

I know for a fact that Hoehn in Carlsbad (CA) gives them. I believe Acura of San Diego may also give them. I know also for a fact that the dealer in Tustin will only give them for warranty work.

I called my dealership to make an appointment for an oil change and some douche refused to give me a loaner (said they were booked for the year). When I went in I found out an appointment was never booked and the lady behind the counter gave me a loaner with no issues.

That dude was just being a douche.

Karen Radley Acura in VA loans them on a first come first served basis, if you are receiving repair service. Never got one while getting an oil change though. And the age 25+ policy doesn't apply there, I've been getting loaners since I was 16 from that dealership.
