A day with the G35

I got to switch cars with my folks today, well they got a G35 sedan loaner, (wish it was the coupe of course), while their G35x was in the shop and I got to drive it around all day.

Dang, I love RWD, the grunt muscle car power sound when I floored the G35 sedan, and power. I love my TSX too, but I got pulled back in the drivers seat when I floored the G35, which doesn't happen to me in the TSX.

Sometime I wish the TSX had the engine and power of the G35, but I'm happy because the TSX gets good gas mileage and the handling on the TSX is a little more crisp, and the interior is nicer in our TSX.

But, I wish the TSX had:

1. More flashy front styling
2. Had that grunt muscle car sound come stock like the G35 has.

I was strongly opting to get the g35 coupe over the TSX, but it's a bisnitch on insurance and I don't have the extra money to get that car. It's a beautiful car. And I agree... TSX needs more power.

Sorry to bust on you 04EuroAccordTSX, but you complained about this a day, week, and a month ago. Let it go...

I dont really like the exterior of the G35 or the interior (but it beats a Maxima, which makes me want to ).

Styling wise, I'm not a huge fan of the pentagrill, but it doesnt make me retch. The only thing I would change is to add a groove on the sides like the TL (and maybe that groove could camouflage a rub strip). There's a utility to my styling beef: every time I look at my slab-sided TSX, I wonder when the first bigass door ding will appear there (despite my paranoid efforts to park "away"). :bukkake:

How does it seem to run say 40-60 or 50-70? That's more fun to me than 0-30 generally.

Well - either that or someone who might have made a wrong decision if straight line power was a higher priority. Trust me ... I have been there and driving a car with regrets is bad times.

Ok, I'll let it go, lol man, sounded like you were Obi Wan Kenobi there.

But, any of those who were previous owners of the TL type S or CL type S, how much nicer is the TSX to drive than those cars?

Had a loaner 03 TL-S. The 6 cyl was powerful but the car felt big to my TSX. Handling was soft also. All I can say is to wait until the warranty expires and hope by that time someone will produce a supercharger for the TSX.

Yeah hope they will make a supercharger by then too. You didn't happen to also try out the CL-S too?

Oh just to add on my day driving the G35, some guy in a new black Maxima (the ugly new styling) was driving like he owned the road and tried to overtake me, he did, but i acted immature and overtook him again, just to show him who's boss and that RWD was better than FWD, plus Infiniti is better than Nissan, even if they're the same company. Don't you think the Maxima is an outdated unnecessary car nowadays anyways due to the Altima?

Owned a 02' 3.2 TL before the TSX, and the ride feels slightly more heavier than the TSX and seems more stagnant (although it's not).

The handling shouldn't even be compared to the TSX, and the interior/exterior qualities just about the same.

The Type-S are a different story though. I had it as a loaner for couple of days and I was quite impressed.

Does the sportshift on the Type S better and more refined than the one on the TSX?

I have much more fun in my TSX than the '01 CL-S I traded in.

The TSX by far handles a lot better than the previous gen. TL, even the TypeS. I drove my friend's 02 TL-S numerous times and still like the way the TSX handles....even though the power isn't there.

and just for the record....the interior is a grade down than the TSX also.

I don't think the TL's interior quality is a grade down. Yes, the TSX has a better styled interior, but in terms of quality I don't think there's much a difference.

My loaner 03 TL-S had excellent full leather seats plus passenger power seat. Good nav system and engine. Hate the instrumentation panel, old style. Sunglass holder was smaller. Can't fit my sunglasses and these are the same ones that fit easily on the TSX. Loaner couldn't be abused that much because it only had 4k miles until I got it. Had car for 3 days. Overall, like my TSX to the 03 TL-S.

I have to disagree with you there. The TSX's interior quality seems a step above that of the new TL. Not sure if the materials are in fact better, but there are pieces in the new TL that look cheap. Such as the faux carbon fiber trim.

the "look" of the interior i would say the TSX has the edge over the new TL in both design and the look of the materials. but having felt the material in both, they are about the same, good but nothing outstanding. But IMO Lexus' quality of materials is much higher than most inc MB, BMW and audi, and of course acura.

Dude.

Can you possibly, just once, post something that doesn't slag the vehicle of choice of almost every poster on the board?

Nevertheless, props for acknowledging that someone does something better than your beloved BMW.

What do you drive anyway?

Oh, I was referring to the 02 TL's, which I believe are the second generation.

I agree that the carbon fiber trim looks cheap in the TL, but the fake wood is far better looking in the TL than the wood in the TSX. I also think it's much more convincing...it actually looks better than some of the real wood veneer on other luxury cars. The real aluminum is also better in the TL because it's not too bright.

I don't think there's a huge difference between the two interiors in terms of quality, though. I still prefer the TSX's simpler layout (the TL's interior seems a bit busy to me).

I think the TSX looks better than the TL inside and out, but I wish my TSX has more power, just like the TL. Though the G35 is no contest. I drove one for a day and man was it a rush! Its fast and has lots of power, very easy to reach 120mph!

I can get over the ugly cheap interior, but the engine of the car is just amazing IMO.

You see I guess I'm not the only one who likes the adreneline and rush feel of the G35. One of the only downsides to the TSX.

I just wondered on all Acuras, how come it doesn't have to loud grunt sound the G35 has? Is it because of VTEC?

The sound that comes into the cockpit is carefully engineered in 90% of cars, Infiniti and Acura had two distinctly different goals, and it shows in the sound. In my test drives of each I catagorize the G as a heart car and the TL as a head car.

We have been doing test drives all week for my road car replacement, and I will get around to posting my musings, but then again I may get lynched.
