Question D3 What is it?

I always wanted to know, but haven't really had the time to check the manual what is D3 on the automatic TSX's? Is it faster or slower to drive in it, what is it? Ur

Isn't that Mighty Ducks 3? lol j/k

As far as I know, that is just your basic gearing including the "overdrive" to save gas...

D3 is 3rd gear. used mostly when driving in snowy conditions.

D1 is 1st gear only, D2 is 2nd gear only, and D3 allows the engine to automatically shift from 1-2-3...and holds it in 3. The TSX has 5 gears I believe. My Accord has 4 gears, and it's got D1, D2, and D3. I use D3 in the twisties to keep the RPMs up. When I want to pass on the highway, sometimes I throw it in D3 (instead of WOT and waiting for it to downshift) and it downshifts a bit smoother. When I go down a steep hill, I also keep it in D3 (or 2 if steeper) so it won't upshift to 4th, thus slowing the car down.

D3 limits the transmission to using only gears 1,2, and 3. You typically use this in conditions where you need more torque (e.g. climbing steep inclines). However, since the TSX has a sportshift mode, you might as well just take manual control of it and get the same effect.

unlike the D3 on other cars, the D3 on the tsx is unique. very much like our rattles.

now, we know you're a busy man with all your racing, but take a second to throw it into D3 (at lower speeds ) or from a stop. you can tell right away what it's for.
