Crossing state lines with intent to drive
Crossing state lines with intent to drive
The hardest part about getting adjusted to manhattan life is not having my car.
I've been here since early July while my beauuuuutiful MSM TXT sits in my parent's driveway 2,000 miles away.
I knew that it would be hard saying goodbye so I psyched myself up by focusing on all these problems I was having (rust, clutch issues) and telling myself that I wouldn't miss it. Didn't happen. First day in town I notice that someone on my street has a CG 6MT. Everytime I walked by it I would imagine that it was just an auto--so I could tell myself that at least this a$$hole wasn't enjoying it and that I wouldn't be bothered by its presence. Didn't happen.
Why does this guy get the luxury of having not just a car, but MY CAR in new york city. For those of you who have never lived in nyc before- it's basically impossible to have a car unelss you have the $$$ to garage it or the time to move it from street to street twice a week for street cleaning.
To make matters worse, my dad calls me at least five times a week to tell me what a blast he's having driving my tsx around town.
So finally I cave in. Early last week I called my folks and told them that I missed 'em and wanted a nice homecooked meal. Got myself a ticket to fly in for the weekend (wasn't cheap) and then the waiting began. I was so excited I couldn't sleep. I felt like I was 18 again and it was just a few more days until my long-distance girlfriend came in for a weekend of sex.
So now I'm back and I'd like to share a few thoughts:
1) Anyone who bitches about the TSX should be shot immediately
2) It is possible to love a machine
3) Aforementioned machine can break your heart
4) If the owner of that CG/6MT/Navi with CT plates is reading this I beg you to let me take it out
5) If you are the CEO of Avis or Hertz please consider adding the tsx to your lineup
6) Don't ever take your tsx for granted
Sorry for such a sappy post- just a little emotional here. And yes- I'm sure the 5AT is an enjoyable ride.

Definitely sucks though, sorry about your pain man.
TSXless
I know your pain man, and your joy, Being the owner of an Incredible car like the TSX and a first year college student not allowed a car, dosent really work out to well. I miss the car alot, and spend alot of time looking at this forum lol, Finally went home for the weekend for the Holiday, and got to drive her again, such a great experience, never forgot but its just great to realise again how fun to drive the TSX is...

that's alright, we expect msm owners to be emotional and open to hugs from strange men.
j/k. it does suck to be away from your car. i'm always glad to get back to my car when away from it for more than a few days, no matter what kind of car it is that i am driving. so are you planning on leaving the car there again? maybe you should take your car with you (
) or sell it and let go of the memories (
).

i understand not having a car in manhattan. when i lived there with my parents (soho), i noticed people consistently got their car A) broken into, B) tires slashed, and most of all, C) dented. not to mention parking is mad expensive. my parents dont own a car in the city, no need to.
the stimulation of nYc more than makes up for the thrill of drivin a tsx, imo.

Why not move out to the boros so you can afford keeping the car.
Likely costs LESS than Manhattan and have more space.

Driving in the Lou (I assume that's where your folks are, from your location) would be different than driving in Manhattan. In the former, you can take your car to LaDue and drive on those nicely paved and maintained roads, or on 270 or out in Olivette, etc. But there isn't really anything like it in Manhattan, you won't get many chances to open up the throttle, sad to say.
And yes, you can love a car. I thought my husband was crazy because he is a bona fide gearhead, but now that I've learned more about it and have a car I really like, I can empathize.

However, having my TSX around to drive has completely changed his driving perspective so letting him drive it is sort of charity. He's stated to me numerous times his intentions of either buying one when I need my car back (or paying me for mine so I can buy the IMA AWD version).
Keeping a car in Manhattan is $$$$$ - have you considered moving to Jersey City and commuting via the high-speed lines? Cost is somewhat cheaper, and you get a view of the city without being in it. Parking is still expensive if you want off-street, but it will be more reasonable than NYC itself.
In any urban setting, though, you risk casual vandalism, parking/driving dents and scratches, and out and out theft...................NYC is a quantum leap worse, I suspect, though WDC in the district takes a lot of guff. No one listens to car alarms, and the police are too busy to track on the random cartheft for chopshot future or even theft for joyride/crime - getaway car crap. Might be worth seeing how long your counterpart car stays in mint condition living on the streets............. IMHO it won't be long before the city will attack it. That regimen of flipping the car from block to block wears thin very quickly; you can watch the parking vultures circling for spaces when it is time to flip for street cleaning.
Even in the quiet city of Brotherly Love, we've had two cars stolen from our block, and countless acts of vandalism for cars parked on the street (antennas, windshield wipers, keying, etc) - one was recovered, gutted after having been flamed after a joyride, the other was probably chopshopped within an hour of theft. Now I keep my TSX in a garage attached to my building that has valet parking and a security guard, so it's safe at night, but I pay more for that than I used to pay for an apartment.........

Moving to jersey isn't really an option. I'm in grad school and can't be bothered with a long commute every time I need to get to class or use the library.
Also, I don't need the tsx around for daily driving- I just want the ability to take a long drive or two on weekends (foxwoods or atlantic city!) I've been thinking that since I can get to jersey in about 30 minutes via train maybe I could find a cheap garage or pay somebody to let me keep it in their driveway. That way I wouldn't have to deal with all the hassles and my baby is just a short train ride away. Anybody know of someone who does this?

I was beginning to wonder if my whereabouts could be tracked via GPS..

Took mine down to AC a few weeks back. Man, that was sweet
. The hardest part was giving it to the Valet (although he did mistake it for a BMW
).

j/k.I went to law school in STL, and my husband (who I met there) was very fond of the Olive 16 movie theaters, and probably spent too much time and $$ at the Mazza Galleria.

Look for "garage for rent" "parking space for rent" ads.
