When, not if, this engine makes it into the TSX (either current or next gen), it will most likely be re-tuned to offer more HP and less torque. Even with a 200 lb SH-AWD system, this baby is gonna fly with 250 or 260 horses.

The only wild-card is how much more the next gen TSX (sport 4) weighs compared to the current gen. We could be looking at a much heavier car when all is said and done.

Also, I'd like to see what kind of performance nubmers the comptech S/C TSX puts down.

Whatever the fate of the RDX might be, the ENORMOUS milestone here is that honda is building turbo engines. We may be looking at an entire diferent car company and lineup in 5-10 years.

Yeah, it'll fly, but physics is physics. Handling would be affected. Still, it all sounds really intriguing.

A 2.3 L turbo Honda engine, very interesting. I always thought Honda generally stayed away from turbo engines except for a few rare cases...

Expect the TL to be putting down 300 ponies and the TSX 260-270 by 08.

Even if it does weigh 200 pounds more the added 100+ lb-ft will negate that problem.

One thing that we are not considering is that the Sport-4 concept may have an engine bay large enough for a 6-cyl. Perhaps I'd rather see the next TSX with a V6 and SH-AWD competing with the IS250, 325i, c320 then a turbo 4 competing with the WRX, EVO, or any VW product.

It's possible honda isn't even thinking about the 2.3 turbo for the next TSX because it was designed to hold a V6.

Which came first: the sport-4 conception or the decision to build the 2.3L turbo? I'm not sure but it seems the sport-4 was unveiled even before the turbo was confirmed (or highly rumored) for the RDX. They could always run an A4 like lineup with a turbo base engine and a V6 option although that would be very un-honda.

If honda is planning an RSX replacement (or CL for that matter), this turbo engine would be perfect I think. Especially in a RWD car.

Either way, this discussion is really valuable for us '04 owners now that we are faced with the option of supercharging, upgrading to an '06 or '07, or waiting for the next gen TSX.

They were unveiled within weeks of eachother. The fact that the 2.3L Turbo will be available this summer and the Sport 4 not for another 2 years its safe to say the 2.3L was conceived of and decided upon well before the Sport 4.

But your right in that they could go either way with the Sport 4. V6, NA I4 or Turbo I4. just think that the fact that the TSX with a I4 has sold so well and been a hit in the automotive press, the next gen won't see a V6.

I agree that with the sucess of the i-4 why bother with a V6. All the TSX really needs is more power. It already handles great but as C&D put it, more power would be good along with some real tires.

Since the initial debut and warm reception of the I4 a lot of have things have changed in this car class. The 3-series, A4, IS250, and M6 have all come out with new , more powerful engines and will walk all over the current gen TSX from a performance standpoint (not so much the A4). Even a recent C&D comparo had the TSX coming in behind the jetta and accord because it is underpowered for its class (slowest car in the comparo).

Now, I didn't buy the TSX to race but I'm getting tired of all the boggy 1>2 and 2>3 shifts from the tall gearing and lack of power. For someone like me to stay in a TSX the next time around, it needs to have significantly more HP (the '06 MMC isn't enough). If acura takes some clues from the rest of the segment, they should realize that the current K24 is probably not going to cut it and I think they should either offer it only in a base model or just use the turbo 2.3L as the sole engine choice. Let the Accord battle it out with the Jettas, Camrys, and Mazda 6s and leave the TSX to take on the 3 series and IS.

I think you are correct though about the V6. It doesn't make much sense, will ruin the cars delicate balance, and encroach a little too much into the TL.

Here's to hoping that the Turbo 2.3L will be a gem so we can look forward to an exciting second generation TSX.

when the SH-AWD package was introduced with the RL, Honda said they plan to use the SH-AWD in all of Acura's V6 cars (this stuck out in my mind because I was hoping the TSX would compete with that pesky WRX) and they would be going "green"(hybrid) with their Honda counterparts (assuming the V6 swedans aswell).

I read this info before the RL or during the RL release time frame.. the article or link was through this site, I'll have to see if I can find it...

With regards to the TSX going to a v6.... The best AWD ralley cars are four cylinders, not v6's. I understand wanting the TSX with a V6, but what I think would happen in the next five years with Acura..

TSX - get's the new turbo'ed 4cyl engine with optional SH-AWD (or smaller version) 240-260hp...competing with the WRX, etc...

TL - get's the RL's 3.5L v6 engine, SH-AWD, 300-320hp, OPTIONAL TL-Turbo with 19's bodykit and 350-400hp

RL - Here's the real guessing game...Honda is making a v10 for the new NSX replacement, making the comment "make a V8?, no, we're making a v10" . Can we be led to believe it might be in store for a future RL? It's bluntly obvious the RL wil die if it doesn't get a turbo or a V8. If acura decided to make the RL with the V10 they would take such a leap ahead in the luxury market.. BMW and MB has typically been the luxury car HP leaders, with Lexus pushing the bar higher and higher every year... It would be amazing to see acura take the lead with the RL..

edit: the new M6 has a 5.0 v10 or v12 pushing 507HP, so it would be hard to see acura getting over that HP, but the M is a special engine, not the base engine, the RL wouldn't go V6 then special option V10, that would be just sily...

My Vision is this:
TSX line up with base 2.4 NA and optional Turbo 2.0 direct fuel injection
TL Line up with 3.5 L V6 with optional SHAWD
RL line up with 4.0 L V8 SHAWD standard
