common tsx problems / buying advice
hello everyone...
my gf is thinkin about getting in a tsx... i personally love the style and the value.. the quality seems to be there too..
my questions:
are there any very common problems with the TSX in general... i looked through the sticky posts and they don't seem to repeat too many??
I have a 3.2 CL so i know about big problems.. ie transmissions failing...
anyone know when the 2007 cars are coming out.. i know there is supposed to be a redesign in 2008, but she is looking to get something fairly soon..
other cars considered: acura tl, audi a3, lexus is 250 awd
but i think they are all too expensive..
she is looking for a 36 month lease for about 350 a month with about 2gs down.. so i think the tsx fits pretty good...
any ideas?

Lots of people have bitched about a lot of LITTLE things, like the '05 window seal squeek or the '06 seat squeek, or the inoperable turbo button, but really, there have been NO major problems for the general line of the car. No transmission recalls, no airbags suddenly deploying, no massive seat heater failures, etc... Plus, it has shown repeatedly how safe it is in accidents.
Tell your GF to get one (maybe an '07 in that cool green?!...) and she will thank you for at least 36 months.
Oh, and get an AT, I heard the MT was really "clunky".

For problems you should browse the Problems & Fixes Forum. Just scan the thread titles and you'll get an idea of what problem/complaint pops up more often than others. Off the top of my head I'd say center console lights going out, "warped" rotors, and drivers seat sliding/moving have been mentioned more than once.

You will get better gas mileage, lower payments, a lot of standard features, lower cost of ownership, one of the best OEM Navi systems, excellent maint history and exclusive car on the daily commute, compared to the other cars in your list. The TSX is the best kept secret in the entry-luxo-sports market. The only thing you will be giving up is more power which most of us rather trade MPGs for HP. Some of us spend half our car payment or more on gas each month. Don’t worry about using 91 octane, the car will perform better and get better gas mileage using the good stuff (just stay away from any ethanol gas like E10).
The 06 or 07 TSX will be the most trouble free compared to 04/05. There is a lot of feature upgrades starting with the 06 which made it a better choice for me. The only maint issues I've had in 5 months/5,000 miles were a bouncy hood at +75 mph and wheel alignment problem (car pulled to the left), all taken care of by the dealership in a few hours.

It is not a perfect car, so don't have that expectation...
The TSX's strengths are its handling and incredible value. It does not drive like a typical boring Japanese sedan, but instead has an almost European quality to it. It sits high enough off the ground that steep parking decks and driveways are not a problem. It really is a practical car, moreso than you would think.
It's weaknesses are usually minor fit-and-finish problems and quirks in the ergonomics (like the blind spot that occurs in certain seating positions, etc.). In my opinion, the ride isn't as refined as other cars "in its class", but I can generally look past this. It is not a Jaguar or Citroen though, and some people might have a problem with that.
In an ocean of boring and soul-less cars, the TSX is actually somewhat refreshing. I enjoy driving the car because it keeps me engaged and is very capable. You get a lot of car out of your investment.

Other than the turning radius and the slightly high-back which makes it a bit difficult to park for short people there's really nothing else that I would complain about.
Yes there are little things wrong with every car and TSX is no exception, but none of them are deal-breakers for me even now. If my TSX got totalled today, I would run to the nearest Acura stealership and buy another one.
The rev-happy engine is absolutely brilliant. I still have trouble understanding how this 4-banger could be so smooth and effecient.
And please help rescue the endangered species by buying a 6-speed manual.
manual transmissions are on the verge of distinction.

it's FAAAAAAAR from clunky... it's def the smoothest tranny i've driven, and the smoothest out of all the cars that compete directly with the TSX..
and the redesign won't be till 09...
personally i'd wait till there's a few '06s on the lot and grab a good deal on one of those... the only difference is TPMS...

I wouldn't say the Acura gearbox is clunky... in fact, I would go so far as to say that it's the smoothest I've ever personally driven. Coming from 3 other MT cars, it does take a little getting used to in the 1-2 shift (may have been discussed before - is this due to the DBW system?), but a few drives, and it's fine.
Of course, this is all a moot point if the OP's girlfriend can't or won't drive a stick
And I agree --- save the manny tranny cars! I can't fathom a world where I have no choice but to "be driven" in an auto... giving me paddle shifts or a tiptronic system just adds insult to injury too

Theirs nothing "clunky" about the 6mt at all. In fact, once you get used to its mannerisms, its a smooth as any MT I've ever driven. And many auto rags mirror that sentiment.

I have had 3 manuals before my current '05 TSX 6-sp manual. In order, '85 Accord 5-sp, 92 Maxima SE 5-sp manual and a '00 Passat V6 5-sp manual (Audi transmission). Of all the cars, I must say that the best manual, as far as gearbox-clutch combination go, is the TSX. It is by far the smoothest. However, drive-by-wire, sometimes gets in the way unlike the VW drive-by-wire which I had on the Passat. I think the VW DBW is a lot better than the Acura DBW. I liked the actual gear shifting action of the VW more though (not the clutch). The '85 accord and 92' Maxima with their long gear levers felt more like trucks!!! (But that '92 Maxima "moved" like none of the other ones!!!).

In any case, reviewers routinely rate the TSX MT as "best in class", and it's better than any MT I've driven.
The only shortcoming in the MT is related to the gear ratios, not that shifter action itself. The 1-2 gap is slightly too large, which can make the 1-2 shift slightly more difficult to master than the others.
