Common Navigation Problems?

So my tsx will be coming off his warranty within the next few months and I am concerned about the navigation system having problems.

I have always been paranoid about the nav as the screen pretty much controls everything related to AC/radio so are there any common problems you guys have had with the nav system?

sometimes the nav will just act retarded.. like when i wanted to go somewhere.. it wouldn't list the street name.. and i was on unnamed roads.. and the nav would keep on recaculating it self.. also it seemed when i was traveling on the road.. it was like not showing on the nav.. and the directions were sooOOO off..

I've heard some folks having problems with the touch screen giving out in certain areas because of over use. I think it was because of pressing too hard over time in the same spot (like on the nag screen OK button). I try to use the voice commands, radio steering wheel controls, and/or joy stick to enter selections to give me a few extra years down the road.

You can also change the touch keyboard layout from alphabetical to QWERTY (typewriter style) to mix up the commonly used letters and not to wear out the touch screen also.

I’ve never heard of any other functions failing other than that.

I have 75K on my 2004 (2003) TSX and have no problems with the Navi other than an occasional lock up that usually resets itself with a turn on, off, on again of the car - much like Windows. The one thing I have noticed is that upgrading from my original 2004 (2003?) Navi disc seems to make the unit move a little slower.

The navi system does not control "everything" AC related, the only thing it controls is manual override of AC on and off and fan speed. You can turn the AC on via the "auto" button. The only other function you would lose with a bad navi is the ability to change the air position (floor, face, etc). You would, however, lose almost all audio functionality, though even most of those features have buttons on the face of the unit that control them.

I stoped having lock-up problems like that after I upgraded the NAV disk.

The nag screen needs to just turn into a disclaimer that pops up for a couple seconds while the nav boots up, or at least have an OK button that moves to a different spot each time

My navi has been resetting quite often while I drive lately. Today it reset 4 times within an hour. Does anyone know what may cause this? I have a voltage stabilizer but I don't know if that affects it or not. None of the wires are loose in the navi unit.

mine does not have any problem.

take it to the dealership if your still under warranty.

I think you can find the tsx navi diagnosis step online. that way you can diagno.... yourself

that just sounds like you need an update version of the navigation dvd. I would ask the dealer if they have any new versions with the update roads.

You might want to wait until about Oct/Nov for the latest DVD disk. I think Acura releases the updated disk once a year around this time for about $185+shipping/tax. I'm going to have to suck it up and get an updated disk this fall. I'm starting to have problems with finding addresses with my fall of 05 Navi disk.

You can also push in on the joystick instead of hitting the OK button.

i've had the navi for 30,000 miles, and the other day it reset randomly while calculating the route. it's the only time it happened. no other problems with it.

Sadly, the system itself is based on windows CE or something similar anyway. Hence the long startup time. Its def not as prone to freezing nor have i experienced it yet anyway on my 07' tsx.

mine is currently having problems. It keeps on restarting everytime I start the car. I'm going to the dealer to get it fixed/checked.

The person that serviced my car said that the problem was from the navi control unit. They have ordered a new one for me and will call me as soon as its ready to be installed. If u guys find it happening more often maybe u should have it checked out.

my navi was acting really bad when I first bought it. It always said, not on a digitized road, and was always going in circles. I took it to the dealer and they "checked it out" and said it was fine, I drove it home from work that night and it was worse then ever!!!! I think they adjusted the coordinates but the problem was deeper than that. I took it back the next day pissed off and I told the service manager to make sure they drove my car off of the lot before they called me back saying it was fixed. By the end of the day I received a phone call saying that they had to order me a whole new navi cause mines was dead!! Since it was fixed, I have not had any problems and my navi works perfectly.

Yeah that was under warranty. It was definately retarded, I stood without my car for like four days, and they gave me a loaner MDX, which I absolutely hated!!!!

I didn't want to start a new thread about this issue.

On the brightness selection (Auto/Day/Night)... I pick Auto. Of course at night, it never changes. Anyone else experience this problem?

My brightness never changes either when set to Auto. I read somewhere that if the brightness were set at the "Default" value, whatever that's supposed to be, it will auto change. I've tried it set brighter, somewhere in the middle, dimmer -- it never auto changes.

It's controlled by your headlights. Headlights on = night.

Also, You can't have the brightness of your gauages (speed/tachometer) set to the max brightness or else it won't work.

Yup, studville is absolutely right. You can't have the gauges on all the way. Turn the knob to the left till you hear it make a beep but the brightness is still up, then when you turn on your lights it will change from day t night.

also, you might have the "day" and "night" set with the same colors. Go to setup and change it so they are different
