Clicking noise on start, doesn't turn over but jump starts

Hey Folks,

I am seeing some strange behavior on my 06 TSX - 103k miles. Once in a while, the car does not start, all I hear is the clicking sound and fan comes out but no ignition, doesn't turn over at all. When this happened last time, i replaced the battery and did not face this problem for 5 months. Now, again,
I am not able to start it although it starts on a jump-start. Yesterday, it didn't start after I came back from the store in 5 mins and needed a jump start. I recently changed my spark plug as part of Maintenance minder 4 and Battery is only 4 months old.

Any clue on how could be going on here?

Vin.

It sounds like a battery charge problem. What is the voltage of the battery when sitting idle or cranking?

If the battery is new then it may be the alternator not properly charging the battery. I would check that as well.

Unlikely it's the battery. Might be the starter (long shot), but it sounds more like a battery cable issue to me (that it starts with a jump is the clue). Check both connections on the battery. Take them off, clean the cable ends and the battery posts, then firmly re-attach. It takes very little for a cable to all of a sudden lose a good connection, and since they were manipulated recently (when the battery was replaced), that's a good place to start.
