Clearing OEM lights

Just wondering why not alot of people are just clearing out their lights by just taking out the orange reflector. i know it wont look jdm...but it cant look that bad. just looking for some input before i install my angel eyes and maybe clear out the headlights.

How are you planning to take out the orange part?

well i know taking apart and reassembling the housing will be a bitch, but i thought they just pop out. like if you've seen the poor mans jam thread, someone is trying to making clear side markers. so i imagine they are removable.

They are removable; however you’re going to have an empty space where the orange side marker reflector goes. There is somebody working on a clear reflector kit but nothing is confirmed yet, by the way there are numerous threads already covering this, you’re going to have to bake the headlight after to make sure absolutely no condensation left inside the headlight. I personally would not undergo this task unless you know what you’re doing.

Whoa, I never acutely contemplated that, I’ve seen TSX’s with cleared side markers and they look horrible the void and shear emptiness makes it look quite unattractive. I have some very light gauge acrylic at home maybe with a random orbital sander and some clean cuts it wouldn’t look half that bad. The next time a cheap set of OEM headlights pop up I am going to jump on this and give it a shot.

I refuse to open my factory headlights without the proper knowledge or know how on the re-sealing process.

Does anyone know if the side markers fall, or line up into a grove? Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe the side markers are slightly angled/ bent. Acrylic (at least a very light gauge) is quite flexible. Hmmm someone needs to try this and post some results.

Talk about luck... maybe its divine intervention? I found a single, bulbless, driver side headlight in perfect working condtion for $20 dollars.

Yeah I 2nd this, not sure why the TSX people aren't just taking out reflectors, I've been on the TL forums and obviously they don't have a JDM counterpart but all they do is pop out the orange reflector and it looks great! Its a mystery why...

^^i'm pretty sure someone on here did this before, but I didn't think it looked all that great. imo, the orange never bothered me that much that I would want it taken out. in fact, i think the orange looks really good on pwp and even nbp.

If you want pictures just check out the TL'ers with cleared headlights, they should look about the same.

ya i know the tl clear headlights look sick, like the "million dollar Headlight" best headlights of seen to date. ya im trying to imagine what i would look like...might look weird. but the TL one looks so Legit and so do e46 BMWs. myabe if there was some way to imitate the clear reflector cause i can see just a clear window to lightbulb would probably look bad.

all we can do is pray for the poor mans jdm cleared reflectors.

I deffinately second that. The amber on the TSX headight is done quite elegantly and it's almost as if it is unoticable. However; if you Must have cleared sdie markers you should do it right and get the JDM headlights and do it right. In the long run a set of JDM headlights will be less of hassle and to me that = money. I would rather pay more and have it work the first time then fiddle around for hours with something that may never look right.

I was originally going to clear my turn signals as well, but saw some pictures of it done and didn't like the look. I ended up using spray tint to tint the reflectors and since my car is black, I think it looks pretty good.

It still reflects in amber which helps when it comes to yearly inspections.

That looks awsome...what type of spray did you use..looks like you also cleared out the reflector around the lights, could you please describe the process? re-sealing/ baking?

very nice not sure if that would look good on CGP, but that was my second choice, to get a dark grey tint on the headlights, i think i might do that. i just dont like how bright the orange is against CGP.

I think the picture looks cool. I wanna do that also. Any pic that I can take a look at? Also, my car is carbon grey color, you think it will fit with the black tint?

I actually had cleared mine and they looked awesome for awhile, until the seal got a small hole and condensed like a beast and blew my ballast. But for looks, they weren't too bad. Here's the thread I did on them.

i had the pleasure of opening up some 04/05 headlights this weekend. it is actually not that bad. you just need to oven bake them open and you can pop out the orange reflector. it looks like the 04/05 corner housings are black where as the 06+ corners are reflective and have a "chrome" housing. I probably still wouldn't do this just bc you do put yourself at risk for condensation like roxxor mentioned above.
