I bought auto because there were 2005 autos on the lot and no 2005 manuals. It was either take a 2005 for below invoice or order a new 2006 manual for above invoice. I went with the financially smart decision and saved myself over 2 grand.

Already have another coupe with stick

My TSX is an around town daily driver for my wife and son. My wife can and does drive a stick. My son is just getting his license and will learn stick in good time.

If the TSX was my only car I would have gone with a stick.

Because if your left leg cramps up or you have a broken left foot, how will you be able to use the clutch?

Buncha reasons:
-my last two cars were 4dr/5mt, and I was ready for something different
-my dealer was on the other side of Philly from my house, and everytime I went there (test drive, order, paperwork) I got stuck in tons of traffic with my old 5mt, and hated manuals when I got to the dealer
-my gf/future wife can't drive stick, and we live in different areas of the country, so when she comes to visit she wouldn't have a car to drive if I had a 6mt
-I'll be moving to Chicago soon, and there's no reason to drive a manual in a place so flat and with so few (non-90*) turns, plus so much traffic
-I plan to buy an S2000 or some other fun car to go with my TSX eventually, so that will cover my MT desires

That's about it.

Oh, and one more thing: when I go out, I don't have to find a DD who can drive a stick....many more eligible designated drivers

Should I start a poll asking the MT'ers why they bought theirs? Geez, who cares.

At the time I bought my TSX, I was still not comfortable driving stick so I went with AT. Plus my other car is a manual...

Traffic, easier to zone out in, human on autopilot option, less likely to get into trouble with (sometimes), can drive more like normal people when I want to (stealth mode and/or less temptation to slam gears), aversions to getting too many tickets (see temptation), been there done that (no the thrill is not gone) and finally... it's a TSX with 200hp and SS mode and even with an AT I can still scare the shit out of me any time I want to. I do love driving my little TSX, MT or AT it's still a fine ride.

For me it was a traffic thing as well. Atlanta has some really bad traffic and 45 minutes back home from work and having to shift gears every 3 seconds didn't sound fun to me. But... if it wasn't for the horrendous traffic... i woudl want a manual. I actually really wanted one.

Ditto for me but 90% spouse. She does not want to learn to drive a manual and I need for her to be able to drive my car for those times that I take her SUV to work- either to take the dog to the vet (no pooch in the TSX ) or I need the room in the truck for some other reason on my way home from work.

If not for her, I probably would still have gotten an auto just for traffic and not really wanting to have to deal with constantly changing gears on my commute to work. My TSX is truly my commuter car....when I get my fun weekend car- it'll be a stick for sure

That is the worst analogy I have ever heard.

Wait too long

If I want MT, I will have to wait for 1 to 2 months.
AT? Pay, sign and drive.

My next one might be an MT. I never learned to drive MT and was afraid to learn on this car (didn't want to break it). I also bought CPO and there were far fewer MT's out there than AT's to choose from.

I'm in the 'drive in traffic/have another car with a stick' department.

Actually, for the population of the city... the traffic is actually much better than Atlanta. Atlanta doesn't have as much volume as NYC, but nobody can drive here.

At least in NYC, a lot of the drivers are decently smart based on what i'm used to. I spent a whole summer there once and i drove everywhere so i know.

We went to buy a TSX 06 automatic because my wife was going to drive it in freeway traffic. After test driving it we felt something was missing so I asked to drive a stick. We both drove it and said this is a different car with a manual transmission, more spirited and fun to drive. We chose the stick and we love it!

It was a reference to the Pace picante sauce TV commercials.

Clutchless may be your future, pal, but I'll fight it to the day I drop. If it means I have to drive the same car the last 30 years of my life, so be it.

And your analogy flew right over my head.

NYC is empty in the summer. The worst time is fall and winter. Holidays. Once your in the city you can get around, but trying to navigate near any exit(bridges, tunnels, etc.) and you will get stuck. Granted late at night and sometimes mid day is ok, a majority of the time you can get backed up. I live just north of the Lincoln tunnel on the Jersey side and have to deal with traffic going into the city everyday on my way home. This is why I chose an a/t. Wed. and Fri. are Aweful. Take a completely different route. Wed. is matinee day for the theaters. A 30 minute commute becomes an hour or longer.
