Cheap oil, cheap pulleys

I'm going to beat the old horse by bringing up these subjects again, but I'd like to make them more interesting by submitting my results (at a later date).

I found cheap oil in the local parts store called SuperSyn from Super S. It is fully synthetic, and has the same API ratings as any other oil, but only set me back $4/quart. Well, I chickened out and ended up buying Mobil 1 from Wal-Mart for $5/quart, but I'm still wondering if anybody knows about this oil?

My plan is to get a Blackstone oil analysis on the Mobil 1 at my next change, and then run the SuperSyn and compare results.

The other thing I want to do is underdrive my accessories on the cheap. If anyone has suggestions on a cheap crank pulley to try out, I'd like to check it out. So far the cheapest thing I can find is made by OBX and sold on Ebay ($150). When I finally make a purchase, I will report back any fuel savings and other observations I can make.

As long as the API rating is the same, it should be fine. For all you know it's Mobil oil anyway. It's morely Castol or Wolf's Head, or one of the other less known retail oil brands; they tend to market the "house brand" stuff (Walmart's oil for instance). And speaking of Walmart's oil, I've been using it for years (full synthetic) and have had a couple of very good Blackstone reports on this oil. Also, Consumer Reports did one of their usual exhaustive reports on motor oil, and they found no benefit to using a"premium" branded oil.

You may want to run (2) oil changes on the new oil before analysis. I believe Blackstone recommends doing that when changing product or weight. my .02

I'm selling my Ralco pulley kit if interested, PM me. Link in my sig. Pretty much brand new.

I'd be interested in seeing the results regarding the oil too.

The generic oil is $4 a qt, and the proven, reliable, sport car factory used mobil 1 is $5 a qt. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure which one to use ....
