Car strains to start up

I just wanted to know if you guys have trouble starting up the car. In mines, when I start it, it won't fire up quickly. I'm not good at describing this, but it's like driving an old car and it's cold out...when you start it won't do it fast. I guess kinda like a week battery. I sometimes, have to hold the key for a few seconds before it starts up. I've also check the battery and it's fine. I don't know. Anyway, when you start your car, does it fire up immediately or does it strain?

If you count the number of starter sounds, I hear 3-4 times before it starts. My dad's 91 Accord 2.2 takes just 1-2 before starting.

Between the battery's loss of power and the increase of viscosity in the oil when cold it's not unusual for a car to start slower. Once the original battery gets to about 4 years old you might have to worry if the slow start is due to cold or the battery.

If you do a search, there are a couple threads about this issue. Its normal...I think it was determined that it was the emissions control that causes this...

Cool. I have been wondering about the same thing also recently. I found it takes longer than I expect to start my TSX, and it almost feel like the battery need a recharge.

No problem with the battery, even though it is a slow starter: I've started it up in weathers down to -25C (around 0 to -10F) and it is good for it.

Perfectly normal. Both my TSX and my wife's 2.4 Accord do exactly the same thing. She had absolutely no starting problems with her car last winter.

Yea, ive come to the conclusion that it's normal. Seems to have been catching pretty quickly these past weeks though.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. This is actually the first new car that I've had that did this...I just thought it was unsual. Thanks for the replies.

Weird flashback....... j/k

Might be your starter going bad, pretty sure mine has. It all of a sudden took like 10 seconds to start, you can just hear the starter whirrrr without catching.

Thin mix to be eco-friendly. I had a '94 integra that never once failed to start up instantly - have to admit I was freaked out when the TSX took a couple seconds.

As long as you turn the key all the way and hold it until it comes on, it should only take a couple seconds. If you short it, and then try again, it usually takes longer. Stopping and starting a car used to equal what, 10 minutes of idling the engine? They cut corners wherever they can to get that LEV rating...
