I've been looking forward to Sirius making it to Canada. I wonder what they'll charge?

Its $10 per month US right? I'd guesstimate $550 per for us

So, how can we go about setting this up in our 04 and 05's?

Actually, XM upped their prices recently to be closer to sirius and it is something like $12.95 a month (I would check, but my connection is super slow right now)

oh yeah! and both stocks went up and are still going up. And I have a feeling it will still keep rising for a bit since it's just starting it's Canadian services.

I paid $76 for the year I think. I can't remember. I think it normally costs $11-12 a month.

So it's going to be $15.99/mo = $192/yr. Damn that's a lot of money for radio.

Do they have portable units that I can bring from my car into my house and hook up to my stereo?

hey dan, think of xm as cable tv. before you got cable, you wondered why anyone would pay for tv that was free; after you got cable, you wondered how you ever lived without it. imho, your only question is whether to get sirius or xm. i have had xm in my last 2 cars (for about 4 years) and have had sirius in the house (bundled in with my dish). xm music channels are not compressed (sounds more natural in my opinion); sirius has more modern music channels. the sq of the music channels are better than a good mp3 (256k and above) and slightly less than a good cd/sacd. the best thing to do is to look up the channel lists of each and see which one appeals more to you. you really can't go wrong with either... jps

Eh, I hate all program material picked for me by other people.

FM, XM, Cable, DirectTV - screw 'em all.

I could only justify it if I could also use it in my house. If I was logging Sauceman miles on my TSX I'd be all over it.

Sirius is $12.95 also. I thought it was pricey at first too, but I gotta say that my Sirius and Tivo bill are two of the only ones that I don't mind paying every month. I get a lot of use out of both.

I go about 45 minutes each way to work and back every day though, so I get plenty of use out of my Sirius. I haven't listened to a CD at a least a month. If you guys don't commute or drive a lot, I'm not sure if it would be worth it unless you get one of the portable or dockable units that you can also use in the house/office.

And to answer your question, its mainly only Quebec, some parts of Northern Ontario and some parts out east that speak French.

Me, I failed Grade 9 French and had to make it up in summer school

I know with XM, if you have a subscription you can use it in several different locations. For those of us in the US, if we have a subscription, not only do we get XM in our cars, we are aloud to access it online also (like at work) (many may not know this). So maybe the same subscription covers the house also....hmmm I gotta check in to this one. I don't see why it wouldn't work like that. Why should we have to pay for another subscription? If anyone finds it out, post some info here....will ya?

Same for Sirius, but it is free online for us.

Sirius has always included this for free. XM just started this including this in April when they raised their monthly fee to 12.95 from 9.95.

One thing I don't like about Sirius's online listening though is that it will not let you listen to the sporting events online. No NBA games were broadcasted online

I WILL be all over it. Heard this too yesterday over the radio while driving. You get those kinds of good news every once in a while...

That, and the Supreme Court ruling that government-only health insurance isn't constitutionnal in Quebec...

PS. I heard there's a big regulatory debacle for all these satellite radio companies in Canada with respect to how much Canadian-made content they have to put on their channels. I believe that the CRTC (like the FCC) forces them to have 1/8th Canadian content, and it has to be all-new Canadian channels not recycled stuff.
