bye bye to TSX

I recently got a EVO X and let me tell you, I havent driven such a good handling car since the 1995 Supra TT. It is on rails and brings me back to when? ah yes the days of the real turbo sports cars. Cars as of late have been dilipated and underpowered. I miss the TSXs fit and finish and worry free operation but what do we really want in a car? Speed and grip. My TSX had body roll and had the same qtr mile time as a V6 Tacoma. I thought about a blower from comptech but then you have a accord jspec with a blower. Yes the EVO is a thorough bred that is reminiesenct of my 88 300zx turbo Zcar days. Blazing down loop 1604 at 130mph and blowing doors of
5.0s. The TSX was a great car but everyone wants to make them faster and handle better and I was tired of that position. Trying to get 2hp here and there is a futile situation.

Congrats on the purchase. I was actually looking at the Evo X MR since I wanted to stick with an auto. Very nice car and more refined than the previous model. I think it lost kind of its sportiness and instead added more creature comfort for daily driving. In the end I ended up with a used TSX because the deal they gave me was a steal. Would of love to own an Evo X though.

Congrats on the new ride. Did you get the GSR or MR?

Anyways just my preference i don't really like the new look of the EVO. I thought the EVO IX looks better.

To me, EVOs just don't give you the room as the TSX. EVO is like a car a high school student would get. I just don't imagine a working person getting this type of car.

I don't mean to attack you, but that statement really shows how us SoCal kids think. Everytime i hear something like that, and everytime i goto a high school parking lot in North Orange County, i see how freakin spoiled kids are becoming and how stupid adults have become. They see a rise in their property value and they think their true net worth has grown so they start spending it on spoiling their kids..

I didn't realize that a $30,000 car was a high school kids car. Hell, when i was in high school i drove a '67 mustang that i bought for $4,500.

oh yeah, to the op, congrats on the new ride! whatever makes you happy.

I agree with you about what kind of cars high schoolers are getting in SoCal. Since EVOs are 30,000, maybe you won't see high schoolers getting the car or maybe they do. I just don't see it as a car a working professional would be getting for a daily commute. I would get it as a project car to drive over the weekend since it has so much power. But all in all, it's a nice ride. It's a great car. When I was in high school, I was driving a beat-up pickup truck my dad gave me.

^ Totally agree with dlee74. Back when i was in high school, i wanted a wrx. Now that i have finished university, the tsx is the car that best suits me on a daily basis commuting to work.

However, at the end of the day, its personal preference. There isnt a "right" car, but as long as you like what the ride offers, then thats the car for you. For me, the tsx is great for my needs!

The evo X is an awesome car, congrats on the purchase!

I think what he was getting at is the fact that for the most part it still LOOKS like the old Lancers that were much cheaper in cost.

Do you really think with the exception of the car enthusiast that the perception of the car would change?

I know for the most part where he was going with this. It's a shame when they bring out such a nice car that they just copy the look of what a bunch of high school wanna be thugs would drive.

That's the only draw back I see.

Best of luck with the new car.

Thumbs up evo

Thanks for the comments. I got the GSR

A couple points. The EVO backseat is bigger than the TSX and has just as much head room but the trunk is small and annoying at times.

Not to be defensive, becuase I would beat a TSX by a few zip codes but a $36,000 High School car come on! Top gear said it runs circles around the WRX front wards and backwards and it is "one of the best handling sedans in the world" and do they really use high school cars in the DAKAR and Rally circuit.

08 EVO 155mph, 0-60mph in 4.1-4.9sec, 1.09g lateral
09 TSX 130 (drag limit) 0-60 mph in 7.5, 0.84g
05 TSX 133 (drag limit) 0-60 mph in 7.2, 0.78g

You guys have to look at the specs to appreciate the car and you have to drive it. If anything a accord/TSX is a high school car. I suppose a 350z is a high school car too. You guys are cowboys. When you few who called it a High school car get some torque and some hp you might understand. Til we meet again.

I think what they meant by the Evo being a 'high school kids car' is the fit and finish, both interior and exterior, isn't exactly the type of car that fits the "suit & tie" look if you are ever dealing with your superiors or clients around or in your car. It looks like something a high school kid would want. Not to say that it isn't a fun car though...

Yeah, that is what I meant. I agree with what TS_eXpeed was saying that it doesn't seemed like a car that you would drive up with a shirt and tie and deal with clients at work or any other places. I think the TSX is a more appropriate car to drive in. EVO is a truely nice car to show your manly way of driving with the hp and torque.

Welcome to the Evo family. Ditched the TSX months ago for a IX MR. Making 345 whp 344 wtq with just turbo back and tune on 26 psi. Haven't looked back since.

Congrats to the OP for his choice!

To that end, I agree with the previous sentiments about the EVO...and it is the truth...nobody is dogging that car since they know how powerful it is but for a long time, the EVO has not been attracting the type of crowd who normally shops the TSX.....simple as that

two different markets have the cars been aimed at...and we'll have to see how this new car shapes up but I have a feeling, they have only moved more upmarket by a very small percentage

OP complains about being tired about the TSX's body roll and lack of power, yet his signature indicates that he only put in an icebox? Of course, if you're going to compare stock to stock, a young professional's car (tsx) will be in a different category than the wrx.

Point taken about the minimal mods. But thats just my point. There is no point to drop 10000 to make it comparable to other sports cars. (SC, chip, brakes, suspension etc....) Its so expensive to modify to get dollar for dollar out of. I would say its not a good mod car. Its kind of like moding a GS300. Its soft suspension, modest engine and setup does not scream I want to go fast some day. btw, it was a 05 6spd. I like car, you just cant get any spit out of it.

I think you meant "what you really want in a car". Because not everyone wants what you want. Some would simply drive it as is, and perfectly happy with it. Some choose to modify a little for appearance or performance to suit their individual taste. If our priority is simply power, then there's no shortage of cars to choose from. However, selecting the right platform with potential is more important to an enthusiast who loves to tinker.

It's kind of like buying the right ingredients and experiment with recipes to make a nice dinner that the "creator" can enjoy. Sure, it can cost more to cook it yourself instead of going to a restaurant, but we know what ingredients we put in and how it was done. Most importantly, we learn something in the process from doing it ourselves. Then again, modding is not for everyone, and neither is cooking.

Congrats on your purchase.

Its the look.. it looks like a tuner car.. something a kid would drive. Just like my father said he wouldn't pay $30K plus for a car that looks like that.. it just screams "race me"

Yeah. Forget the kiddy OEM Brembos, Recaros, Momo steering wheel, forged BBS/Enkei wheels (MR/GSR respectively), and Advan tires. Yes, an Evo is quite the childish car. The wing? Yeah, well it has proven to be functional if you are actually racing the Evo.

Don't sit here and make stupid and biased comments about a car. I loved my TSX and still think Honda makes great cars for what they are designed for. I love my Evo in a totally different way. Saying that an Evo looks like something a kid would drive is extremely hilarious and indicative of some kind of cop out on your part. I would love to show you how childish my car is. 14.9, 2.2 60'.............I wouldn't brag about that.

Haha.. are you serious? I for one am in love with the the Evo 9 MR edition.. almost made my friend trade in his 07 G37 Coupe 6speed with 11K miles for an 05 MR with with 3k miles.. they were asking for too much and my friend thought for the price they were trying to sell it for was robbery. And a down grade! But we still love the car.. it just has the tuner look. I can brag about 14.9 if you knew the conditions on how i ran those numbers. I did those numbers about 4 years ago..with intake and reflash only..oh and bald tires so that might've helped. At the time it was a personal record. If i was turbo charged pushing close to 300hp and awd i'd better run 13's too! Its a car to toy with.. Now you pulling out your Evo to show me how childish you are.. I mean.. how childish your car is.. sounds entertaining. But I dont think you really want to do that..haha. Seriously!

Right, and uh, your red TSX that appears to have blacked out tails, black wheels, and dropped doesn't have a "tuner" look? Oook. An Evo being a downgrade to a G37? In what way? Yeah, it doesn't have cushy interior. But I mean, in every other performance aspect, the G37 will get blasted and is surely not a "downgrade." I still don't see how an Evo is a "car to toy with." Again, that just shows some sort of unfound bias that you have for whatever reason. I don't know where that even comes from? Just because you don't have to jump through hoops to make 15 whp (see TSX), doesn't make it a "toy car." If you could elaborate on that, I would appreciate it. I doubt that Buschur's 9 second, street-driven Evo is any "car to toy with."

And why wouldn't I want to do that? Do you have something that would really give me a run for my money right now? It surely cannot be your TSX. BTW, thank god your friend didn't get the 05 MR. Everyone knows VIII's were garbage.

Ok.. Listen. I know a ton of underpowered cars that would give you a run for your money. And an Evo is a downgrade to a G37.. but maybe not in your world. Im not bias by any means.. The TSX didnt come off as being a tuner car to me.. its just that i like to tune. I was gonna get the MR when it was first introduced but not for the $41K sticker it had! Not worth that much money. I never said the Evo was slow.. I just said it was a tuner car and everthing about it says "tune me, race me". I mean we can go back and forth all day long. It was built to race with flashy "brembo brakes" and "BBS wheels".. uh... that seems like a tuner car to me. And Buschur's car was "toyed with" if its running 9's! Proving what im saying. And just because you have an Evo, doesnt make you the fastest thing on the street so stop acting like you cant get beat by a TSX.. Your Evo is suppose to be the faster car.. it was built to be. Its a matchbox car on roids!..haha. All i see are younger kids and some up to mid-lower 30's.. Even had a guy (36) come up to me and talk about my car and how he just sold his Evo because it wasnt his scene anymore.. You'll relize one day but it seems it may take you awhile.

Trust me. At 345 whp/344 wtq , I am hardly "fast." I'm very well aware of that. But I will tell you that from being on this board since I got my TSX in 05, I have yet to come across a TSX that has even broken the 13's. You expect me to believe your statement that a TSX is capable of beating me? Show me a TSX that is running 12.5-12.4 and I'll gladly stand corrected. Really it isn't a pissing match, and I never intended to start comparing the two cars. Two different leagues and purposes like I said.

As for the all of of the "toy" and "tuner" semantics; I guess the definition is dependent on who you ask. Like you said, it can go back and forth all day. I hardly consider a car on the Evo's performance level a "toy" but to each his own. A "toy" to me would not be a purpose built car, but rather a project like a K-swap EK/EG hatch.

You havent seen any TSX run in the 13's because at one point there wasnt any reliable engine management systems out. Now that K-Pro has been released for the TSX, you will see faster TSX's.. you'll see boosted TSX's.. Nitrous, etc. 13's use to be far fetched..they are achievable now. You've been here since 05.. you should've known that

Everyone will move on at some point for a different car or priority, and no one needs our approval when making that move. It may not be the right car for you but it certainly is for the person who bought it. Additionally, you don't want the same negative treatment when it's your turn to make the next jump. So, just be happy for the OP and let it go.

And guess what? You are going to be handicapped by FWD massively. Not to mention that by the time you are in the 13's, I will be in the 11's on street tires. It's stupid to compare these two cars like I said. Mod for mod, I still am a mile ahead of you. Rarely is a TSX going to give an Evo (or any car in that category) a "run for their money" unless they are bone stock or the TSX is no longer streetable.

Again, let me make this clear. I like the TSX and think it is a fantastic car , having owned one. I am not on this forum to troll or to slam the TSX or to throw around my Evo like I am some tough guy. I still enjoy reading the forum and seeing what is new with the car and such. I just saw a thread pertaining to Evos, so it naturally drew my interest.

Agreed.

Listen.. we all know how fast an Evo can be.. we all should know that a TSX wont compare in the performance catagory. But how i see it is if a RSX can run 10's.. a TSX will be able run 11's.. maybe not as a daily driver but still capable. I for one dont see the need to run 11's in my TSX so those goals arent for me.. especially in a FWD car. I might want to run 12's though..haha

Yeah man. I was excited when I saw that K-Pro became available for the TSX. I am really curious/excited to see what the K24 does on boost (REAL boost with REAL engine management...not that weak CTSC )

evo

Thank you guys for the entertaining debate. This is what owning cars is all about. The trash talking, even though I wasnt aiming for quite a colorful post. I must sum up.

The Lancer was built for the Rally Circuit as the Z for the race track. These cars have race blood lines. They race TSXs but they also race saturns so dont confuse the latter. Both use Brembo brakes stop incredibly with no fade. Evo 114ft and the TSX is lucky to stop in 140. Whats the excuse? Didnt think so. The lancer is a race proven car for all driving conditions around the world. I havent seen a TSX in the DAKAR rally yet, but maybe with the new chipset it will also do the speed of light.

In closing we are not comparing apples to apples. As quoted by the someone else here. The TSX is not a sports car but an executive car with nicessities. Everyone says its not a tuner, but everyone tunes the tsx to the ground. The pathetic souls even get a grounding kit. I think I will leave that to the electrical engineers and get my .05 hp elsewhere.
P.S
If you want room and comfort check this out its faster and has more torque

Why does this always turn complicated with the garbage talk crap.

Is Evo a faster car? Duh. yes.
Is Evo more sportier? Yes.
Is Evo more fun to drive? Yes. (I think so)
Is Evo higher quality than TSX? No. (People who buy evos don't give a damn about interior gaps, squeaks and rattles, and gappy exterior fit and finish. That's not what the car is for.)

You win some, you lose some. Some people look for certain points in a car. You want a 4 wheeled sports rocket, EVO is the way to go. If you want quality and reliability with bells and whistles with a hint of sportiness, TSX.
