Buying at Beginning of Month

There is a ssm ebony non nav auto TSX at a local dealer. It is a vin# not impacted by the transmission issue. I am really interested in that combo. My question is this: what are the drawbacks of trying to buy this now vs waiting at end of month? I have always heard to wait until month end to buy. Any help would be appreciated!

Certain color combos are in high demand. Honestly, I doubt there'd be much difference in price by waiting and the car might be gone. If you can afford to wait, try it, but I doubt it will net you much.

I agree, I think the demand is high enough that they dont need to try to make month-end sales, I would think waiting is always the best (I didnt say easiest), but I dont think it will make much diff.

The advantage of end-of-the-month buying is that, hopefully, the dealer will be more motivated to sell the vehicle. This works with vehicles that have been on the lot for a time or ones that are to arrive before the end of the month. I've read somewhere that the dealers have to pay (rent? carrying fees?) for each vehicle on their lot on a monthly basis. If a vehicle is in high demand chances are it won't stay on the lot long enough to motivate the dealer to discount it. Anyways, you should decide how much you're willing to pay and then just go in and bargain. If you get it for your price then great, if not then you can wait till the end of the month and, if its still there, try it again. Good Luck.

Everyone's experience will very, but the quote I recieved was only good until March 31, this also coincided with the end of the quarter, so I do not know if it was end of the month or end of the quarter which had a larger effect. It could have also been a salesman trying to sell a car, and using the end of the month deal as an excuse. I would have your price set, and at least try to negociate now. If you do not get it walk out, and they will atleast know what you are looking for, and if in the future they can sell it for that they will probably call you.

My friend just purchased a new TL and a 2003 RSX-S, and he got killer deals due to it being the end of March. The RSX-s(with bodykit, etc..) sticker was 21,900. He got it for about $18,000. The salesman kept going lower and lower, as promised the price as long as he bought it on/before the 31st. Similar deal with the TL(at a different dealer), the salesman offered it for $100 over invoice if he bought before end of the month. After that, he couldn't promise anything.

The end of March is the end of the fiscal year in Japan so there might be some incentive for dealers to move a few more cars then. If the car slows in demand some the only other time you might get a break is at the end of August when the 05s will start showing up.

Biker, thanks for that bit of info. Didn't know that but its handy to keep in mind when purchasing Japanese brand cars in the future. BTW, is that why the TSX started selling in April 03? I always wondered about why they picked April.
