Burnt rubber smell...normal?

Hey guys, so recently I got my injen cai installed and been kickin' it to the redline lately

it feels as though my car has been getting extremely hot (much warmer than my usual driving) and theres like a burnt rubber smell to it after im done driving so... is this normal?

if this helps-
-05 auto with 40k miles on it
-last oil change around 2k miles ago
-the engine temp on my gauge is at the normal warm mark, it has never went pass the mid point

Where's the scent most strong? Open the hood and check. Smell the brakes.

Your intake won't produce a burning smell unless you leave the plastic bag it came in on the engine. If you smell something burning, it's because you're burning something. I'd venture to say that you're burning up your clutch and brakes while "kickin' it to the redline"

DOH That's right. I keep forgetting you can buy automatic transmissions in vehicles.

OP, check for a plastic bag on your exhaust or something similar to that. It's probably what's burning. The intake won't produce any strange smells by itself.

This is a good suggestion; when I was a kid, my mom was driving us somewhere and started freaking out because she smelled burning plastic. I got out when she pulled over and started looking under the car (even at 9 I was into it, lol), and saw a shopping bag melted onto the muffler. Damn it stunk.

found the burning smell.

I found the burning smell and it was because the plastic cover that somewhat encases the wheels burned and melted.

this is definitely not normal. can someone tell me whats wrong? I recently put in an injen intake and i do notice the filter rubbing against the cover thingy but i doubt thats the prob and ever since my intake, it feels really hot standing outside my car.. >.<

Could be your wheel is causing friction to that area. The bottom corner of the black plastic should be secured inside the front bumper.

BTW, all the electrical and grounding wires are tied down to where they're suppose to be?

+1

This doesn't look good, I don't see how your intake would do this. You must have done something when you were installing it because if I remember correctly you have to get in that little spot and remove the resonator. Hmm

That's from your wheel rubbing on it. You're burning that plastic cover with the heat generated from the friction between it and your wheel. That's your smell. Just put the plastic back where it should be and secure it. Your smell will stop.
