"Brembo" brakes....

I've heard a number of comments indicating that the "Brembo" brakes on the 6spd TL are much better than the TSX brakes, are these the ones that are on the TL?:
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...lacement+Rotor

Or is it more than just the rotors/pads, but calipers etc. that make the TL's brakes work better.....

They also use a 4 pistol caliper instead of the single for the TSX (I think).

The real problem is that the TSX has the brakes off of an RSX-S. You're trying to stop an extra 400 lbs. that aren't supposed to be there according to the brakes.

Kurt are the brakes on the TSX exactly the same as the ones on the RSX? If so, what's to stop us from using an RSX big brake kit?

I was thinking about that too Dan! I'm not IMPRESSED with the brakes on my TSX. Just about last week it faded and a month ago I got into a sittuation where i had to brake from high speed and it feels like i need a better brakes.
If we could use the brake system from RSX-S then I'd be glad cuz i'll have more choices to choose from. Instead of that $2400 from brembos.

I couple of articles I've read on them say they're great.

Here's a quote from Car & Driver:
Acura TLs equipped with the manual six-speed also get beautiful Brembo four-piston front-brake calipers, and these contributed to the shortest stopping distance of the pack—160 feet from 70 mph, with a firm pedal feel that garnered a second-highest rating on the chart.
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=6

Too bad the 6mt TSX doesn't get them . No way I'm spendin $2,500 on brakes....unless I get some unexpected inheritance.

yea, i read that article also, but there were other comments in the article where some CD reviewers didnt like the brakes. I think MT also had an article where the brakes in the TL and TSX werent impressive.

Well, didn't exactly get my question answered, but I kinda get the gist. Better brakes on the TSX won't be just a change out of the rotors/pads (although I'm sure those will help somewhat....), but also the calipers. Looked at the kit, nice, but $2400!!!??? I wonder if the anti-lock electronics and VSA computer/electronics could handle different braking components..... Reason I'm wondering about better braking is that I was surprised that the Accord stops quicker than the TSX, that's just plain silly.

You don't want to put fronts on the back. You'll end up making your car unstable during hard braking (i.e. the back end will come around on you).

For those of you interested here are some prices (from acuraautomotiveparts) :

Caliper Left $283.86
Caliper Right $283.86
Pads $140.36
Rotor Left $122.64
Rotor Right $122.64
Total $953.36

Pretty darn cheap for a set of 4 Piston Brembos IMO

Damn Dudes........First tons of rattles......fuzzy speakers...now lousy brakes???????????????????????....I really want to trade my 02 RSX for a TSX but not if it's going to be a major headache! Didn't they do any R&R before letting this lovely car hit the road and more importantly before getting into the owners hands.
Please...say it ain't so.

brakes arent that bad and speakers are nice for stock. forums are mainly for enthusiast so idealy many ppl on here look for upgrades. with that said, this forum is also very informative.

Acura, however, does need to make their brakes better tho.

According to a email I got from Stoptech a 4 piston 328mm kit for the TSX will available within the next three weeks.

Stoptech brake kits outperform Brembo kits thanks to their Aero rotors and perfectly sized pistons which perfectly maintain proper brake balance.

The price for the Stoptech kit will be no more than $1800!!!!!

$1800 for the front kit. Brembo's front kit is $2400 I believe.

A rear kit is pretty much useless except for show purposes.

it's just that the rear brake already looks tiny compared to the stock front. i would think that the rear would look REALLY out of place with some big brakes installed up front.

Just a stab in the dark here, but I'm gonna say the brakes in the rear are a little more than useless since they are disc brakes. If they were drums, I'd have to agree, so upgrading the rear has to be beneficial in some way.

Wrong. Talk to any reputable aftermarket brake manufacturer (Stoptech, Baer, Brembo) and they'll all say the same thing. Upgrading the rear brakes with a big brake kit installed up front is pretty much useless.

Discs or drums, it doesn't matter, they're both designed to do the same thing. If a brake system is designed to send 35% of the braking force to the rear brakes 35% of that force will be used in actuating either the pads (against the rotors) or shoes (against the drums).

Here is a good read about big brake upgrades and why rear brake upgrades are uneccessary unless the front brake kit doesn't maintain the original brake bias:

Here is a picture of my 2001 Eclipse with a Baer Track Front brake kit:

Do the 13" front rotors look huge compared to the 10.25" rear rotors? Yeah, they do. Could I play around with rear brake kits and a proportioning valve? Yes I could. Would I want to? Nope.

Brakes are the #1 piece of safety equipment on a car. I would never want to affect how the system works as it could mean my life.

I guess it all comes down to whether or not your about absolute performance or showing off your car in car shows.

Can I use OEM pads or it has to be Stoptech's pad?
In that case how much does it cost would you happen to know?

All Stoptech Big Brake kits come with AXXIS Ultimate Brake Pads which are a good heavy duty street/light track use pad.

Harder compound pads are available for extra $$.

i wonder how much better these brembo and stoptech brakes are. they are pretty close to 2k, and im not sure if that is worth it. i think the way to go is maybe the spoon rotors and pad. should be around ~500 to 600.

Just got off the phone with Rick Elam from Baer.

Currently there are no available brake kits for the TSX nor is Baer currently developing any brake kits for the TSX...

I'm sure you can fit the TL's brembo's on the TSX the question is will it be a balanced setup.....
