That is correct, MB yanked it and took the variable maintenace out and put back a standard milage for regular maintenance.

I think BMW/Mini, Audi, Jag, Saab and Land Rover are the ones that cover maintenance for any length of time, I think a few like Lincoln and VW offer the first service free.

Depends on country. Canada and US have different packages.

While you might have all kinds of oohs and ahhs over the AWD variant of some car, the fact of the matter is that they represent a miniscule share of that models' line up. I'd venture to guess that if the TL came in a AWD version it's share vs. the regular TL would be less than 10%.

Like the halo car in some models' line up, much of this marketing is hype and keeping-up-with-the-Jones kind of mentality on the part of some of the auto makers.

No bets needed - I'm just looking at the historical trends. You have to realize that the silent majority makes the real diff in a models' success not a few enthusiasts.

The price of the TL is low enough and targeted at a demographics to which an extra 2-3K matters. Plus, to many uninformed buyers, the better in snow argument won't work cause they already think the FWD nature of the regular TL is good enough. And very few people will buy an SHAWD TL for the better handling given by the system.

I disagree. The extra 2-3K won't matter to the majority of buyers, and while I agree that most people are uninformed, any salesman worth his salt should be able to convince more than 10% of buyers to opt for the SH-AWD system based on its increased safety and handling prowess.

Here is reason to buy the BMW

Oddly Enough - UK Reuters

BMW drivers get most sex

Sat May 1,10:19 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - BMW drivers have more sex than owners of any other cars and are much more active than Porsche drivers, a new German car magazine has found.

The German magazine "Men's Car" found in a survey of 2,253 motorists aged 20 to 50 published in its inaugural May issue that male BMW drivers say they have sex on average 2.2 times each week while Porsche drivers have sex 1.4 times per week.

Following BMW drivers were Audi (2.1), Volkswagen (1.9), Ford (1.7) and Mercedes (1.6). Drivers of foreign car makes were also behind BMW with Italian cars (2.0), French (1.9), Japanese (1.8), Swedish (1.6) and Korean cars (1.5) trailing after.

Among women, French car drivers were top with 2.1 times per week followed by Audi (2.0), Italian (2.0), and BMW (1.9) with Porsche again at the bottom of the scale at 1.2 times per week.

Hell yes it will. Acura buyers state "value" and lower price for the main reasons for purchase. 40k for a AWD TL? I don't think many will buy.

Sticker would be about $37-38K with nav and AWD. Compare that to a $46,195 comparably equipped BMW 330xi (per Edmunds), and the value is quite apparent. The 3-series is wickedly overpriced.

BIG hell ya. I dont understand what features make it worth well over $40k. It is priced so close to a 5-series and its just an entry level car.

as you move up the luxury chain, value and price become less and less relevant, would a ferrari buyer care about value/price? whereas a kia or hyundai buyer would have value and price as the main priorities, a honda buyer less so, acura less so, lexus less so and up the chain it goes. acura attracts "value" conscious buyers who are willing to trade driving enjoyment, latest technologies, brand cachet, some quality for features and lower price. but as one moves up the luxury car chain, there is a lower willingness to give up something for the sake of a lower price.

You talk like the ex-Iraqi information minister. Trading driving enjoyment, technology, and quality? You are so misguided. I can't believe some of the bullshit in your posts. The only thing I agree on is increased brand cachet for BMW, not because I personally see it that way, but because I'd agree the general public perceives it that way. But what do they know? They pay $46,195 dollars for a 3-series.

"The great mistake made by the public is paying attention to prices instead of values." -C. H. Dow (1900)

Considering the steep depreciation curve I'm not at all sure that a Kia or a Hyundai is any sort of a bargain, even if they are about the cheapest cars built today.

Hondas and Acuras hold their value pretty well.

I DO have to agree with Gilboman that if I were spending HIS money, I'd spend it on a 330iX. But since it's my hard-earned money, the Acura is just fine.
