Bluetooth users with RAZR V3's

I've got a 2004 TSX navi that i bought back in 03. GOnna replace it with an 06 in a month. Want to get a bluetooth phone (finally) for handsfreelink, but I dont want to have to keep turning bluetooth on and off because of battery drain (if possible).

RAZR owners: do any of you permanently leave bluetooth on? If you do, how long till the battery dies in standby?

Any other phone recommendations? I'm also considering the sony ericsson T637. My primary concerns are battery life and voice quality/signal reception. I don't care about any other features (camera, text, blah blah).

thanks!

My wife has that exact phone. She tends to toss it on the charger every day, so I can't give a good answer other than to say she's had no issues.

I have a Razr V3c (Verizon) I leave my Bluetooth on all the time - I get in & out of my car without hassles - I do notice the battery tends to drain more when I'm driving & talking, I'm sure it doesn't drain as much when I have the phone in the car with me (bluetooth on) and not talking. I can't say how long the phone battery would last (I guess it depends). I charge my phone nightly. HFL is a great feature!

I have a Samsung D500 and previously used the RAZR V3. It doesn't drain the battery much at all. Plus, when you're out of the car it auto shuts off the connection anyway. Unless you're planning to talk constantly while you're in your car, there shouldn't be any major problems.

Have the RAZR right now. If I leave the bluetooth function on all the time, it drains the battery in about 48 hours with minimal use in the car. Extensive use can shorten that a lot.

My suggestion is to just set one of the soft-keys on the main screen to "Bluetooth" and give yourself easy access to the bluetooth menu to turn it on when you need to. That works really well for me.

If you set BT to on, it will resort to bt search if ur not in ur car. Set BT to on on the phone adn whenever u start the car, the phone and car will connect automatically. When you leave the car, they unpair. BT resorts to search feature which pulses for a search, rather than keeping it on constantly. It does take out some power, but not to the effect that it'll kill ur battery before the day ends. Heck i have my bt on all the time, i still get 3-4 days standby with some talk on my e815

That seems to be about what I get with my Verizon RAZR V3C also. I can probably go another day or so, but then I might risk my phone dying on me during a call.

I have that phone. I got the car charger, i plug it in the glove box compartment in the aux power source, I leave the phone in there while i drive so it never loses any charge and its out of sight.

I have a shortcut key for bluetooth on my phone. I press it when i get in the car, place the phone in the charger and im good to go. Most of my driving is more than 5 miles so this works quite well for me.

I leave my razr powered to Bluetooth always. Seems to be fine. I also have a car phone power connection if I ever need to charge my phone en route--so far I haven't needed it.

thanks everyone.

RAZR guys/gals: how do you like your phones? I tend to be a nokia guy myself but it seems none of the nokias are certified by handsfreelink which kinda sucks. i like the nokia OS and tend to not like the moto OSes as much. plus, slow response time to buttons annoys me.

how do you think the RAZR would treat me given those comments?

thanks!

I have never had a problem with my RAZR. I like the sleek design, but I also know that I need only the functions that it provides and not much else. As far as current phones go, it's pretty spartan. So as long as you can live with the limited functionality, it's a nice phone.

im on the east coast, my razr never dropped calls. The screen is delicate though but I fall asleep on my phone almost every night. My screen died after 9 months of constant use and abuse. They sent me a new one over night. I am on month 11 with my razr now and it works great in my car and also with my handsfree bluetooth headset. The volume doesnt get loud enough when you're in a car with music on or the window down but with our bluetooth TSX's that is not reallly a concern anymore. Also you can remedy the volume by using a bluetooth headset.

It is a pretty limited use phone like someone said earlier, but I dont use my phone for much else other than talking and texting.

What's the advantage to having the RAZR V3 vs Motorola E815?

The E815 costs less, so why the RAZR V3?

Because the RAZR is about 1/3 the thickness of the E815.

That razr is very sleek looking. I found the battery life to be less than many others and had to charge it nightly. I also do not care much for the keyboard. But man is it kewl! I used bluetooth all the time without problems.

Depending on how strongly you feel about the differences between Nokia and Motorola, you might want to go ahead and get a Nokia phone with bluetooth. I know you said they are not certified for Handsfreelink, but I remember reading on here somewhere that there is a Sprint phone or two that isn't certified but works just fine. Might be worth a shot just to see. ...Besides, most mobile phone companies have trial periods where if you end up not liking the phone (or it doesn't work with HFL) within the first 15 days or so, you can return it for a different one... just a thought.

I just started using my Razr with Bluetooth discovery mode ON all the time. As soon as I start my car I am linked up, talk about seamless integration! I love it.

I use V3 with my 06 TSX, and its absolutely fine. I went to a national park once, charged it a night before, and it worked fine all day long almost spent 9 hours in the car, and talked for about an 1 on bluetooth, still at the end of the day i had 2 bars left on my phone.

I wouldn't be concerned with the battery life. I bought two additional batteries off ebay and a car charger. I keep one in the phone, one at work and one at home. This was I always have a charged battery. And in the event I need to charge the battery, I can charge it at home, in the car or in my office using a usb cable. My battery drains a bit faster when I leave it in auto discovery, but you can't beat the convenience of getting in and out of your car and not have to do anything.

Just charge it everynight. It's a lithium battery so it should be fine. Either that or just get an in car charger for emergencies.

I use a PEBL (U6) -- very similar to the RAZR but I felt the form factor was nicer, it fits a little easier in both hand and pocket and the trick opening mechanism makes it the nicest clamshell phone I've ever used. (Be careful which pocket you keep it in though -- that sexy soft-touch plastic will get messed up by keys). I'm also not sure if the RAZR has the (excellent) speaker-independent voice recognition. As for bluetooth, I leave it on all the time and do not notice a significantly increased battery drain, but better yet you can leave a 12V car charger plugged in inside your center console and plug the phone into it every time you drive and it will be very neatly out of the way. As Alin said there is no harm in charging a lithium battery before it drains.

I keep the Bluetooth enabled on all the time because I was sick of having to power it on every time I got in the car and wanted to make a call, even with having a shortcut it was a PITA. To remedy the battery problem, I keep mine charging all the time I'm in the car; I put the car charger in the bottom part of the center console, run the wire up through the hole in the front, and keep the phone laying in the top section of the console. I think the RAZR is the only phone you could do this with because of how sleek and slim it is. LOVE the HFL.
