Blue Plastic Protective Covering in Door Sills

When the delaer prepped my TSX they forgot to remove the light blue protective plastic that covers the metal door sills. It actually took me a day to realize that there was a protective seal on them (I have an MSM and it actually looks kinda cool with the blue plastic on.) I've had the car about 2 months now and I still haven't removed them. Just so you know, I'm also the type of guy that leaves the plastic protective covers on LCD screens and such until they fall off naturally. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else got their car with this protective plastic still on the sills, and whether I might be in for a big surprise when I try to peel them off a year from now and it's harder to remove than that stupid security seal on a CD...

You could actually get them anodized if you want to keep them blue.

I agree with Dan. If you want to keep it blue, get it anodized. I'd rather peel off that plastic. It'll get ghetto.

Is the blue color on the sills just a temporary protective film? What color are they supposed to be?

Yes. It's the same stuff that comes on brass objects (lamps, fireplace screens, etc.) It just peels right off, but can be a pain to get out of the edges since they are installed with the film still on.

They are just brushed aluminum color.

Hahah! I've been driving around for 7 months with the plastic film still attached! Originally I thought it was supposed to be that way (I have Arctic Blue, so it kinda matches) but I later saw another TSX without the film, and realized that they're supposed to look like a brushed aluminum (similar finish as the interior trim). Anyway, I like the bluish look, they haven't turned "ghetto" yet (i.e. no scratches, gouges, etc) and I don't have to pay for any anodizing!

Oh oh, time for another poll... :P

"Originally I thought it was supposed to be that way"

Me too, along with more than a few auto magazine testers who commented on the cool blue color.

Now the questions becomes:

Strip it off or leave it on?

I say "Leave it on" unless it starts to look crappy, due to scratches or gouges that allow the brushed aluminum to show through.

Well, I couldn't resist peeling them off to see how it looks...

The blue is definitely more striking, but the stainless does tie in better with the interior satin silver dash/door trim on my CGP.

Thanks for the heads up, guys!

If anyone actually does want to have their door sills anodized, these guys do some pretty impressive work: http://www.anolaze.com/splash.htm

No idea how much $$$ it would cost.

If you do get the blue crap taken off, make the dealer do it. That way if anything gets scratched in the process you can blame it on them and have them replace it.

Mine peeled right off using just fingernails... although I was prepared with a wooden toothpick for the tight areas if necessary.

I think I'll be leaving them on until they turn "ghetto".

Glad I'm not the only one. I too kept the blue covering on and it still is in mint condition.

I was going to make this thread but thought that everyone was going to be like... you're a fool.

Got the front two about two months ago. Got the back two about a month ago.
