Big Decision…Need Some Help!
Hey guys/gals,
This weekend I decided to “pull the trigger” and initiate the purchase of an ‘06 TSX w/Navi. I was undecided on the transmission when I arrived at the dealership, but figured I’d test drive an AT because the few times I’ve been to the dealership I only saw 2-3 TSX’s all non-navi AT. Well, to my surprise they had an MT non-Navi on the lot the day I arrived. So I took it for a short spin. It’s been a few years since I drove a stick (used ’88 300ZX in high school and college) and it took a stop light or two before I got back in the rhythm. Anyway, I was very, very impressed with the, tight, smooth, short throw of the 6sp. It brought back the “fun factor” I experienced when I drive the 300ZX, in-fact the whole thing is still kind of a blur to me. When we got back to the dealership I sort of made a hasty decision on the spot and had the sales rep look for a 6sp w/Navi CGP or PWP for purchase. I didn’t even bother to test drive an AT before I left the lot that day. Well, today I got a call saying that there were no 6sp w/Navi TSX’s in the south east, within the dealers reach and today was the last day to place an order for the last Aug. shipment of ‘06 TSX’s.
So here’s my dilemma: I can wait till mid June and place an order for an ’07 TSX w/Navi MT that won’t arrive until Sept./Oct. and during the next 3 weeks they’ll look for other 06 Navi MT’s arriving in June, July and try to dealer trade for one which is probably a slim chance. Or, given the extreme rarity of TSX’s w/Navi & MT, I’m wondering if I should reconsider my MT choice and get an AT which is much more abundant. Some other reasons I thought might give the AT transmission an advantage, other than the sooner availability, is better fuel economy, easier re-sale and the ability to shift it yourself or let the computer take care of it. To make matters worse I’m single with only one car, which I’m currently trying to sell, so if it sells soon I have to workout some transportation between then and when the TSX arrives. I’m hoping to borrow a car from the “folks” if that happens. I know the MT v AT discussion has been done before but I’m looking for your thoughts and opinions on whether it’s worth the long wait for an MT.
Thanks for reading.
I look forward to your comments,
Thad
P.S. If I order an '07 the cost will go up but by how much so I can figure my target price for negotiating. How much did the price go up between previous years 04 to 05 and 05 to 06?

I think you should go test drive an AT. If the MT is more your style, I'd wait and order the 07. You may kick yourself later if you get the AT now. But, if you like the AT better, then go for it.
get a manual, it is so worth the wait. i wouldn't bother with a 2007 -- in fact, if you think you can handle waiting, you might want to wait for 2007s to hit the lot and then buy an '06 anyway, since there won't be any major changes this year but the 2006s will get harder to sell (i.e. cheaper) as soon as 2007s hit the lot.
MT/AT...it's all up to you, but you should figure out what you really want because there's no sense in getting something you'll tire of and wish you'd have waited.
Also, the 06's came in pretty late this year. Most people didn't get theirs till December at the earliest, so if you're going to order one, I'd wait till the fall to sell your current car so you have transportation. I'd say you're probably in for a long wait for an '07, just like the '06 crew this year. Just something to keep in mind.

I think a few people here mentioned that their dealer told them that there were no MT's available in the region just so that they would buy the dealer's AT. Maybe you should try calling other dealers?
The best thing to do if you can wait would be to wait until the 07 hits the lot, then buy an 06. Then if you decide to upgrade to the 08, it won't be as big of a hit as trying to trade in an 07 for an 08. (The 08 is supposedly going to be the next generation)
The reviews call TSX a sports sedan...so do the sporty choice and find a MT! =)

Definitely check with another dealer or two to verify what your dealer told you. Some dealers even post their inventory on their websites so you could check that as well. Also, definitely drive the AT before you make that decision.

I did that once, shopped for a vehicle intending to get it with MT, wound up getting one off the lot for a great price with AT. Regretted it after just two days and kicked myself from that point on. If you really think you will appreciate the MT, and it sounds like you would, get the MT. Especially for the TSX. If you're not getting the MT with the TSX, I'd even have second thoughts about the TSX at all. By, the way, the '06's didn't start coming in until December, I believe - so the '07's arriving in September/October is probably a stretch.
Funny that I'm still waiting for mine to arrive (in about a week!!!) even though the next model year cars are now within spitting range!

Thanks, everyone, for allowing me to use this forum as a sounding board and for your great comments. As some mentioned, over the weekend, I had submitted for quotes from approx 5 other dealerships in the South East. Today I got a call from an Acura dealer near Atlanta, GA saying that an '06 TSX w/NAVI MT GCP/Ebony was due for delivery this week. We negotiated on the price, and I gave him a credit card hold. Assuming the TSX arrives as expected I'll go to Atlanta this weekend to sign the papers and pick "her" up.
I’ll give you the purchase details, tell you how it went and post some pics. next week.
Thanks again,
Thad
P.S. Now I just need to sell my current vehicle ASAP. Wish me luck!

depending on how far they push you to wait for an 06, and 07 might be worth the wait, but it's at least 6 months away i would bet. and that's if you're on the west coast. the 06 TSX was impossible to find in the east until early december at best.
Okay here's how things went down. To keep this short I'll try to give you the “Cliffs Notes” version:
My initial deal was with Nalley Acura near Marietta, GA (NW of Atlanta) for $28,500 with protection package. The car was supposed to arrive Thurs. but did not come in. I checked with the rep. Fri and he seemed confident that the car would arrive by Saturday. I took a one-way car rental from Montgomery to Atlanta (about 2.5hrs) and stayed with my brother who lives in the suburbs of NE Atlanta. Saturday afternoon arrives and a phone call to Nalley reveals the car is still not there.
My brother calls a dealer (Acura Carland) in Duluth, GA about 20 min from his house. To my surprise, Carland had a GCP 6spd w/Navi that just rolled off the truck 2 days ago
. Only difference is it has a Quartz interior instead of Ebony, okay with me I said. So my brother asks, Hugh (Carland) if he can do $28,500 with protection package and he said yes. He tells Hugh its a deal and to prep the car for pick up that afternoon. I called back Nalley and told them that since the car wasn't delivered as expected that I had decided to go with another dealer who actually had the car on the lot. After all I did need a way to get back home.
I met with Hugh Kronitz (Internet Sales Rep) for Acura Carland late Sat. afternoon.Hugh was very professional, friendly and easy to work with. My brother and I took the car for a test drive to check it out. When we came back Hugh and I took care of all the paperwork and questions. He then handed me off to the "demo/training guy" who went through all the features of the TSX with me. I have forgotten his name but he was also very friendly and helpful. Bottom line, I ended up purchasing the car from Hugh Kronitz at Acura Carland, price was good, people were great and I'll defiantly be going back if/when the time comes for my next Acura. I'd highly recommend Acura Carland. Two thumbs up!
In addition to all the “car stuff” getting to spend Memorial Day weekend with my brother, sister in-law and two nephews was a great bonus. I’ll post some pics of "her" in the next day or two, as if there aren’t enough CGP pics around here.
No matter, like a proud papa I just can't resist.
Just want to add that this forum has been a great resource for me and is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Thad

And we both have SSM TSX's.
