Best bang for your buck:Rotors and Brakes

My front rotors need to be machined and i think my brakes need to be changed. Im looking to buy all new rotors and brakes instead of machining them. What is a good set off rotors and brakes but price is really important. I would like slotted but i think they are a little expensive. Is it possible to get a complete kit(brakes(f/r) Rotors(f/r) for under $500? thanks

That is Brakemotive, and they carry their Powerslot brand of rotors. I have the and they are great. Their pads are really nice as well. If you check out the Sponsored Sales forum in Black Market, Brakemotive is an authorized vendor here so you should be able to get a slight discount.

Overall I rate them very highly as their product and service was excellent.

with slotted rotors, you gotta match them with big brake kits. that's the complete set of looks.

You get what you pay for. I've seen a few threads recently on customers having issues with the R1 brake setup. Personally, I wouldn't take a chance with some cheap alternative when it comes to stopping my vehicle.

There are a number of quality brands: ROTORA, STOPTECH, Brembo, etc

We have a deal on ROTORA rotors on the website; use promo code AZ ROTORA and visit http://store.excelerateperformance.com

I can also give you a deal on some STOPTECH rotors too. Just PM your info and what you're looking for and for what car and shipped to what zip code.

What should I get if I just want better than stock performance?
And when I say better than stock, I mean not prone to warping, shuddering. I'm not tracking so I don't need something to withstand fade.

Wow, I'm really digging the price of the Brakemotive ones. I don't track the car nor do I stop really late, so performance on brakes don't mean much to me.

I've had a great experience with R1 concept rotors. 45k mile, 2 sets of aggressive pads and a couple of bed-in procedures later, they are fade free and have never 'warped' on me.

Word of caution though....I live in Cali, and I've read of rust being a problem on them while researching in other forums for other makes. Not as much of a problem in Cali.

That notwithstanding, I'd go with them again since my experience has been great and better than stock.

Im kind of worried about getting crossed drilled/slotted because i find that if you dont get a bif brake kit it looks kind of cheap. Anyone have pics of cross drilled/slotted without big brake kit? Also i live in Toronto so we get snow and a lot of salt, i dont know how that will be on the r1 rotors

Bump...I'd like to see a few peoples setups as well using factory sized cross drilled/slotted rotors. I have a brake job coming up as well.

Got them on fairly easy. Getting the rear pistons pushed back was a pain in the butt! Didn't have the special tool for the pack so I made do with pliers. in terms of looks honestly you can't really see them due to stock rims. I'll take pics soon when I can get a sunny day to wash the car. The stopping power is different. Smooth and quiet but they don't necessarily bring the car to a screeching stop. however, if I do want the car to stop in a hurry and apply a significant amount of pressure...it'll stop nice and quick. This might sound dumb but i guess it's just the difference with ceramic pads.

Any questions???

OEM pads are ceramics, by the way. Probably a slightly different formulation but very similar.

When I called Acura of Santa Monica, the parts department told me stock brake pads are semi-metallic

My car on Ronjon's site:

#35 in the gallery: http://www.ronjonsportdesign.com/tsx-gallery.html

Powerslot rotors with Hawk ceramic pads. I have about 30k miles on them now with no problems.

If you really want them to last and be reliable Racingbrake is the way to go. Otherwise get the cheapest ones you can find.

I'm looking at R1Concepts and I see that they have the E-line and the premium rotors. Are they really much of a difference or is it just a gimmick? Do you guys have the E-line or the premium?

The E looks like it stands for "Economy"

The whole R1 brand is a gimmick, man.

Im sure that R1 isn't the best brand but from what i have read, they offer a good product for much less than their competitors. i can almost buy 2 sets of rotors for the price of 1 of the competitors.

The point being, bang for the buck....if you are not going to get something with any added bang over stock...spend the least bucks possible. Goto ebay or something. Get no-name chinese rotors.

Brembo blanks are again, just OEM replacement.

I imagine they are better than the cheapest stuff, but I don't expect you'd see any improvement over stock rotors.

Finally got around to a good washing of the car and rims so here are the pics I promised a long time ago. I realize it might be repetitive since there are other pics already posted but I'm bored in my econ class.

The second to last picture shows something that's on the rotor. It's not rust and it'll probably come off with a little work. I'm just too lazy. I've had them on there for about 3 weeks now and they've been great. No noise what so ever. Stopping power is great. And I dunno about brake dust yet.

Brembo blanks are good rotors and I wouldn't buy anything beyond that if you're not racing your car on the track. Vendors here are trying up up sale their products and will denounce anything that's their brand.
