Bent OEM Rim - Options??

Guys,

The wife (maybe it was me bent the rim in my 06 TSX (hit a pothole). Tire shop wants $150 to fix it - they said they would send it out and get it done right. No idea what a new one (OEM) would cost and I guess there is always the junkyard. Whatdayaguys think? Any experience getting a wheel repaired?

Thanks!

-Keith

p.s. Have pics of the rim but guess I am not allowed to attach. The 'dent' is not major- but it is causing the steering wheel to shake slightly. Tires were balanced btw.

That seems pretty expensive to me, but I've never had one repaired before. Sounds to me like it's time to get a set of light weight wheels and get rid of all 4 of your OEMs

$150 is high for a repair. Try a few wheels shops on line, they ship them in and out. Or you could check ebay, they're often available for cheap money (I bought one to have as a spare for like $50 in my driveway)(yes, the 06 to 08 style).

You can buy a used set in really decent condition for about 350 bucks or so now. I wouldn't pay then to fix the wheel, way too much. Just buy a used set from someone or hit up the junk yard and find one. It will be way cheaper.

They charged me 350 for a new one, so better off find used from a member or off wholesale price for silightly cheaper. Their are oem replicas like through tirerack.

$150 is expensive, you can get a used set of 4 wheels for like $200-$250.

When I checked, a new OEM replacement from the dealer was around $350 -- they are like the OEM tires -- overpriced.

If it is like the '04 wheel, I have one that is in "like new" condition for $125 -- and I will cover the S&H. It would need to be prepaid -- and I would ship within two weekdays of receiving payment. Send me a private message if you want my phone number.

The first thing you should do is be glad all you did was bend the rim. =) I hit a bad pothole last year in a heavy rain storm (couldn't see it until it was too late)...bent the rim, punched a hole in the tire, and put the car out of alignment.

Rather than pay the dealer $300+ for a new OEM rim, I went shopping on ebay. Lots of people replace their rims almost as soon as they get the car and then put the OEMs up for sale. I was able to pick one up for about $130, including shipping. It was in mint condition, and I can't tell which one was replaced.

I'd check the BM and see if anybody there has anything. I'm sure they do.
