bad idea to trade 02 RSX-S for TSX??

What is your opinion on this? Money wise, is this a bad idea?
I have 32K miles on the RSX and really want to upgrade; what do you suggest??

Thanks in advance

Upgrade what exactly? The sportiness, power and feel should be almost identical between the cars w/ the RSX Type-S having an edge. If you want to upgrade features and interior then the TSX is definately the choice.

The TSX will be a very natural and logical upgrade. A more refined and comfortable car, that still retains some of the fun to drive you are used to in the RSX.

I would upgrade either to a TSX or a G35 coupe.

Champ..........I'm in the same situatiion. I have an 02 RSX Type S with only 12,000 miles that I'm might sell to get a TSX. I'm ready for a bit more quiet cruising and luxury features. I've already test driven a TSX and believe me...they are different cars! Without a doubt my RSX is quicker, remember it's about 600 lbs. lighter. But the TSX drove so nicely and quietly and was plenty quick for me although I never punched it during my test drive. I'm just getting a little tired of the bouncy ride of the RSX but I think I can wait till the 05's come out. By then maybe all of the bugs will be eliminated from the TSX.

Kelley Blue Book on a 02 RSX-S, 32k, excellent condition trade-in is $16,800.

Is the TSX upgrade worth $10,000 + tax to you?

Before you even concider this you need to find out what your loan buyout is.

Once you have your loan buyout then you need to figure that against what your trade in, and private party retail is.

If you sell it on your own its more money for you but you also have to deal with the headaches where as when you trade it in you hand them the keys and the car goes away.

Once you get those numbers straight and decide if you want to trade in or sell it yourself, you then take the difference in that and your loan buyout + whatever money you would have to put down on a TSX and you have a realistic number of what you need to do out of pocket.

Once you have that number, you can think about it. Until then you are pretty much fooling yourself / daydreaming.

Good summary gfx. All other things being equal, the monthly cost also comes with another two years of car payments attached to it, vs. keeping the rsx. (Assuming champ has been paying for the rsx for 2 yrs and the same term loan on the tsx).

good point....the RSX is mine in 3 years or i can bite the bullet and start off fresh with a loan that wont be paid off until 2009.

Like some one said , is it worth 10 grand more?. probably 3 more years on top of my original loan due to the higher monthly payment. hmm..alot to think about. I just got my aspec suspension and love it too but i'm growing tired of 6MT in rush hour not to mention i'm an old fart pushin 40!

I like the TSX a lot more than the RSX so I'd definately go with the TSX!

I was offered 15250 for trade and 3.8% financing for a monthly payment of 475 on a red TSX auto non nav selling for 26.2

What are your thoughts on this deal??

Champ....welcome to the club.I'm an older dude with an RSX-S also. My situation is just the same. Sell the RSX and start all over again with payments for another 5 years. But hey...life is short and you are younger than I am ...what the hell. You might as well drive the car you want. And Champ......i have the exact same car as yours....desert silver...I have the factory spoiler...no other mods yet.

I encourage you to do math yourself - if you can't, you _will_ get taken by the dealer. Follow gfxdave's instructions above. There are many loan calculators on the net, including at acura.com.

Also, compared to the KBB value I posted above, it looks like you are getting burned on the trade, assuming your car is in good shape.

KBB is definately not a useful tool to determine trade-in value. Edmunds is the closest I have found but in my opinion they are all optomistic.

I backed out....
I definitely got a bad offer on trade in, more than 1000 less than edmunds, KBB or nada. I also have a credit report at 800 + and wasnt happy with 3.9. The dealer is the only one in town so i guess i will go elsewhere next time. This is a supposed fixed price dealer so they tend to make their money using smoke and mirrors on trade in and interest rates.

Next time i will do better homework before going in. I would have walked out in person had i known how much they low balled me on my trade.

Thank you all for your support and input...car buying sucks, reminds me of las vegas= house always wins
