I tried changing the navi's bg color (blue, gray, amber, or red) but didn't notice anything different. Right now it's set to red but going through the different menus I don't see anything that resembles a red background. What am I missing here?

It's not that dramatic of a change when you switch the color. All of the colors have a gray tint to them so you really need to watch when it changes to catch it.
