AWD JDM Accord question
Does anyone know what kind of AWD system the JDM Accord has? Is it similar to the system on the Pilot (fwd until a slip is detected) or is it more like the systems on the A4 or a Subaru (permanent AWD)? Any info is appreciated.

We need someone who can read Japanese to visit the Japan Honda web site to tell us what it says about the AWD system. I doubt its a very complex system. Nothing like SH-AWD. My question is if it would bolt into the TSX since they are very similar cars. They even list AWD with the 2.4L.

get real guys, why would AWD be worth the cost to source a transmission, install and void your warranty, add weight to the TSX and do you really need AWD for 200hp?

No, but you might want it for use with a supercharger and higher horsepower
applications where torque steer might become a problem. Seriously though, I'm just curious what kind of system it is. My guess is similar to the Real Time 4-wheel drive on the CRV & Element.

Certainly not SH-AWD..
Certainly not SH-AWD..
But, didn't they test SH-AWS on JDM Inspire (US Accord)? I saw a video clip somewhere where they were using Inspire for a testbed... If they used the same platform for Inspire and JDM Accord, then I guess it could be possible..
But (another but), I doubt they'll put SH-AWD (or any AWD) on JDM Accord or TSX, especially with 200 hp engine.. That will make 0-60 time for 5AT really 3.5 minutes..

The Euro R dosent even push out 200 hp i think, however its got torque like crazy....and as Caroll Shelby said: "Horsepower Sells cars....But torque wins races".....
And AWD would be good in the TSX...with a boost of HP...lets say 260 HP....210 ftlbs...and an AWD system to a 6 speed manual....oooh....that would be nice

Actually you've got that backwards. The Euro-R puts out less torque than the TSX but more HP at higher RPM.

There's quite a lot of difference really. The biggest change is the magnetic couples that transfer the exact amount of torque to the appropriate wheel. http://world.honda.com/HDTV/news/2004-4040401a/

Here's the breakdown on the chassis codes for JDM Accords.
Sedans:
CL7 - All 2.0L FWD Accords, that's including the Euro-R
CL8 - All 2.0L AWD Accords
CL9 - All 2.4L Accords (FWD only, not available with AWD)
Wagons:
CM1 - 2.0L Accords (FWD only)
CM2 - 2.4L Accords (FWD only)

There's also a CM3 chassis for the Wagon which is 2.4L and 4WD
