AUL Extended Warranty

AUL Extended Warranty
I searched through the threads and Edmunds website to find most guys do not think extended warranties are a good idea. I purchased one last night on a 06 TSX with 96k miles for $11,999. My mechanic inspected the car and it all check out except the front struts are leaking and starting to go bad. The dealer did not offer to cover the cost to fix pre-purchase. I bought a 3yr/36k miles warranty that covers the struts and most everything else except brake pads at $1600 with 0 deductible. I came home and research the company AUL administarators. They are out of Napa, CA with a A+ rating from BBB, but with over 40 complaints in the past 3 years. I hear they may deny coverage. The finance agent said she will mail me the contract. I think I should have looked at the fine print before signing off. Anybody dealt with AUL?

Buying a warranty is like playing at the casino, you may win some but the casino always makes out. You need to read the contract that you bought and see what it covers and what is does not. If there are things in the contract that they are supposed to cover that they deny, first contact AUL and escalate it. If they continue to deny the claim you can always take them to court.

I'd be careful what you say to the warranty company. I work at a dealership that deals with two warranty service companies. One of them is Wynn's and I can't remember the other. Don't tell them that you bought the car knowing that they were leaking, and the dealership didn't want to fix it. The warranty company most likely would deny your claim for the leaking struts/shocks because it was a pre-existing condition. Happens here all the time.
