That would be my guess too (based on my responding to car wrecks for over 30 years); too much damage for phone pole (many of those are surprisingly easy to break off at the base). Oh, and it's never too early to start scavenging someone else's misfortune. If you not you, then who?

I hope the driver was A-OK.

Looks like the TSX held its own judging by the amount of damage to the front end and the normal looking windshield and cabin. Looks like the engine/tranny stopped the damage (or tree) from entering the cabin.

I thought there were side air bags inside both front seats bolster?

Just the door side. Pretty sure it's because though the safety belt will do a fair job of restraining you from moving too far to the right, since it's only a 3 pointer, it doesn't prevent you from violent movement to the left (hence the bag between you and the side of the car). Put your belt on and try moving to the right, then left, and you'll see what I mean. We've seen a few these (TSX) involved in some pretty violent collisions on this site, and the car does seem to hold up well. I can't stress strongly enough though how important it is to wear your seat belt. The air bags will provide a tremendous amount of protection, but they work in conjunction with the belt (that's why it's called a supplemental restraint SYSTEM.... Duh!)
