Lightbulb Anyone paint the calipers?

Hi All,
I saw a pic of a PW with the calipers painted blue and it looked good. As a color matching challenged guy, I was wondering what everyone's opinion would be on what color would look best on the CG and Silver Star rims? With the Silver Stars, you can almost see the whole caliper and I am not totally happy with the OEM color. Any ideas?

Hmmm. Blue? Most factory go-fast cars pick red. I dunno but red is my favorite.

Agree. Red is still my favorite too, but I just want some change. Plus, since everyone painting their PW with red, my will be different.

Here is my old ride with read caliper.

hey ECSW where do you get the paint for the caliper.
Andddddd How hard is it to paint it did you have to take off the rim/tire and take off the caliper from the rotor?
Or did you cover the rotor while you painted the caliper.
Was the paint brushed on or sprayed on?

Hehehe... here comes the instruction again.
I use Caliper spray paint (rated 900F/450C) from Canadian Tire or Lordco in Canada. $10 each can. Good enough for 4 calipers for sure. usually 4 hours in total. Paint brush is just the same IMO. But paint brush is much more expensive.

1. Jack up the car, take out the tire. Use soap, water and brush to clean the caliper. (I don't need this since I paint it the next day I got my car)

2. Use a lot of newspaper and masking tape to wrap up things u don't want to get painted including the roto and the body.

3. Spray paint the caliper for 1st coat and wait until it dry. To get it dry faster, use hair dryer. Spray 2nd, 3rd coat until u see nice painting on ur caliper. 4th or 5th if necessary.

4. repeat this with all 4 calipers.

Good luck with ur painting. Don't think it's too hard. I am a regular computer guy who used to think I will never do thing like this. But at the end, it's worth it.

When painting did you move the caliper any or leave it in place and mask around it?

Do you need to mask a certain part of the caliper when you're doing this? I took a close look at them and it looks like there are some parts that may not like to be painted... Anybody got any close-up pics of painted calipers? All the links I see here are broken.

back from the dead, but a good topic.

you can mask over some parts, or you can paint all the rubber joints, nuts and brackets. I masked them off, but if I did it again I'd probably just paint them for time's sake.

Thanks for the pic.

Now, I read in these old threads that the TSX MT comes with black brakes, but the AT comes with bare metal ones. Is that true? If so, does anyone have pics of the MT ones?

Right now I'm thinking silver or black... At first I wanted yellow but I think people would make fun of me. Didn't find a single person here who wanted yellow.

AT and MT calipers are identical.

Anyone paint their calipers without taking the wheels off? I'm getting 18" rims with pretty large spaces so I think it would be possible to cover everything that could possibly get paint on it, and then I could save a lot of time by not taking off the wheels... Maybe move the car back and forth a bit to get easy access on every part of the brakes. Is that a stupid idea?

that is such a bad idea I barely know where to start. if you can't take off your wheels (and better yet your caliper) you shouldn't be doing this. painting calipers takes a while, there is no way around it.

yea thats a REAL stupid idea.. technically im sure its possible but its gonna end up being harder than just taking the wheels off. plus, you're not gonna get an even layer of paint and you're bound to get paint in unwanted places.

just take the extra 5 minutes and take the wheels off homie!!

Ok, now all I have is the jack that comes with the car. What's the optimal way of doing this?
Take off one wheel at a time and wait until it dries? Find four big bricks?

Do yourself a favor and get a hydraulic jack from Canadian Tire. They go on sale all the time and it's well worth picking one up. Get some jack stands while you're there too so you can do two wheels at a time.

if you do 1 wheel at a time, it could take you over 8 hours to do the entire thing. Save yourself the trouble and use a nice hydraulic jack with 2 jackstands. Most of the time is spent waiting for a coat to dry (you'll probably do 4-5 coats, more if you primer), and 1 wheel at a time would take forever.
