Like I said before, anyone who pays as much for insurance as the payments to buy the car is not making a sound financial choice.

$4150/year, OUCH! People always say Massachusetts is expensive. I'm paying $1060/year with $500 deductibles and 100/300 coverage (39yr old male/Step9 rating/married/suburbs) Cali seems like a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to insure a car there. Perhaps you can shop around for a better price.

Insurance rates here in California is really expensive specially for young drivers and drivers with less than 18 months of driving record. Then if you get a moving violation or accident (your fault), your rate will go up.

I pay $97.00 a month for full coverage on a 95 Civic, a 02 Explorer and my TSX. Premium went up 30 a month when I got the TSX, so $360 a year for the TSX. I'm 33 and my wife is 25 in Salt Lake.

The rates are ridiculously high but there are a few things you can do. First, definitely shop around. Also, look for companies that offer special discounts for students with good grades, non-drinkers (you're on the honor system with this one), LoJack ($600 installed) or anything else. If you screw up and are offered traffic school, take it. You'll still get your ass raped like oneilc stated but you might at least get a reach around too.
